3.3 There are many agencies that we work with to help with children and young peoples development. When we look at behavioural development, social interactions and speech development all these agencies link together. We use nursery transition days to help the child settle into their new environments and arrange intake visits and meetings with the school for a smoother transition. Social services is used if we have any concerns of a child's well being so then police and a designated social worker would also be involved. The health team are always on hand to help if any families need support with parenting or any development issues. They will then offer parents appropriate courses such as nurturing. At Playgroup we can point in the right direction of any help needed such as our family intervention officers who go into the family homes and will discuss any problems families may have. We run a language and play session which families are invited to where they can enjoy some one to one time with their child to do various activities that will enhance development and build parents confidence too. We have various teachers who can give us support too that work within flying start that can give advice on children's development and help observe children if we feel there are any problems. There are many different types of setting which provide care and education for children and families. The main three settings are the statutory sector, voluntary sector and private sector. Statutory sector is a service that by law has to be provided by the government to children and families, for example, St Peters RC Primary School. The opening and closing times is between 8:45-3:10 (depending on before/after school clubs). This school is provided by the state and offer education for children 4-11 years. They have qualified staff and aim to support children though after school activities, extra help in classes if a child needs more support. They work with adults through parents evenings so the parents can meet their child’s teacher, also the parents will have a better understanding where the child is up to e.g. milestones. Workshops so parents can learn what the children are learning in school, this supports both the child and parents as it means the parent can help the child at home. A statutory sector can be free full time education for the child. This is helpful to families that are struggling financially or unable to work therefore cannot afford to pay for education.…
Services included within this program consist of Promoting First Relationships (PFR), Positive Parenting Program (Triple P), Readiness to Learn (RTL) and Incredible Years® Parenting Program. PFR is an evidence-based training program that is dedicated to promoting children’s social-emotional development through responsive, nurturing caregiver-child relationships. Furthermore, the staff at HopeSparks uses practical, in-depth, effective strategies for promoting secure and healthy relationships between caregivers and young children, from birth to three years old. In addition, Positive Parenting Program is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programs in the world. Triple P gives parents simple and practical strategies to help them confidently manage their children’s behavior, promote healthy development and strengthen the parent-child relationship. What I found interesting is that Triple P is currently used in 25 countries and has been shown to work across cultures, socio-economic groups and in many different kinds of family structures.All in all, my experience at HopeSparks was rather very informing and important to know because there are families out there who are in need of help but lack the knowledge and resources to get that. HopeSparks truly provided an exceptional programs/services for children and families out there. There are many services/programs that they provide that can meet ones need in improving an individual’s state whether its attendance, mental health, eating disorders etc... As part of the National Governments incentive to help provide backing and encouragement to practitioners in schools 2 new funding programmes were introduced by the Department for Children, Schools and Families as part f the Government Children Plan. These programmes; Every Child a Talker (ECAT) and Social and Emotional Aspects of Development (SEAD). These were launched to increase the skills of early year’s specialists and were a part of the government’s wider pledge to the education workforce development. These packages were designed to address the need for children in schools to experience a language rich setting through staff in ensuring that they work successfully with both parents and families. At chapel Street Primary School we offer a variety of services e.g. integrated early education, childcare, community support groups and parent survival courses. Some of these services may include visits to a child’s home or could even have links to training or employment opportunities for families with children under five. In my work setting we help to support working parents by extending the day by combining early education and childcare e.g. breakfast clubs, after school clubs.
