ABSTRACT
In this experiment,we determined the porosity the rock sample that has been given by conducting liquid (brine) saturation method.The rock sample that has been used in this experiment is sandstone and limestone (carbonate).After we conducting the experiment,we found that sandstone has porosity of 4.58% and limestone has porosity of 1.33%.This indicates that sandstone has a bigger percentage of porosity than limestone.This is because sandstone has a well-sorted grains arrangement rather than limestone.This also shows that sandstone is a good reservoir rock rather than limestone.
INTRODUCTION
Porosity is defined as the measurement of storage capacity in the reservoir rocks.It also can be defined as the ratio of pore volume over bulk volume which is the total volume of the reservoir rock.
The basic calculation that has been used to find the porosity is:
Φ = PORE VOLUMEBULK VOLUME = BULK VOLUME-GRAIN VOLUMEBULK VOLUME
Based on my knowledge,sedimentary rock is a good reservoir rock.The example of sedimentary rocks are sandstones and limestones.However,both rocks has different porosity.Based on the experiment that I will conducted,I expects that sandstones have higher porosity than limestones because sandstones rocks has bigger spaces between the grains compared to limestones.
