OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this lab is to identify main structures of the brain, like the corpus callosum, hypothalamus, etc, in real sheep brain. Although it is a sheep brain, the main purpose of this lab is to develop an essential comprehension of what the primary structures of the cerebrum will look like in an actual brain.
CONCLUSION
The purpose of this lab is to get a basic understanding of what primary structures of the brain will look like in a real brain. This lab reinforced the idea that the real brain is much more complex than what it looks like in the textbooks. Once dissected, the brain looks like nothing more than squished-up oatmeal. The corpus callosum, one of the main …show more content…
It’s soft and spongey and can get easily damaged. Therefore ensuring some protection of the brain are the bones making up the skull. Along with the skull, there are three membrane layers also protecting the brain. In addition there is also cerebrospinal fluid protecting the brain which is produced from the ventricles of the brain.
WHAT CIRCULATES THROUGH THE VENTRICLES? WHAT IS THE …show more content…
The cerebrospinal fluid acts primarily as a shock-absorber for the brain. It is, as talked about in a previous question, a method of protection for the brain.
DESCRIBE THE FUNCTION OF EACH REGION OF THE CEREBRAL CORTEX.
There are four lobes making up the cerebral cortex. The frontal lobe is located in the front of the brain. It’s associated with cognition, motor skills and reasoning (something that sets humans apart from other organisms). The parietal lobe is associated with processing sensory information. The temporal lobe, located below the parietal lobe, “behind” the ear, is associated with interpreting sounds. Since the hippocampus is located here, it’s also linked to memories. The occipital lobe is associated with vision and interpreting visual stimuli.
HOW DOES THE SIZE OF THE OLFACTORY BULB IN SHEEP RELATE TO THE SIZE IN HUMANS? WHAT MIGHT THIS TELL YOU ABOUT THE SENSE OF SMELL IN THE SHEEP’S SURVIVAL IN PARTICULAR ABOUT HOW IT ACQUIRES FOOD?
Sheeps have a much more developed and bigger olfactory bulb than human brains. The sheep’s acute sense of smell helps differentiate between various plants and it helps detect
