graduation his intentions were to become a history teacher and a baseball coach. He attended SCCC and then Lindenwood university majoring in art his plans soon changed after seeing the pay rates. Then he pursued a career which he would commit to and that career would become part of his daily everyday life.
My uncle soon attended EMT school to become a LVL 1 basic emt, then attended St Charles County Fire Academy. After graduation he accepted a job offer with Cottleville Fire Protection District. He soon started to rise up the chain accepting promotions and raises. He has told me many stories of his career it’s quite hard to remember some. But there's one story that still shocks me to this day and in my mind defines him as a hero to me.
My uncle responded to a 12-24 which is a fully engulfed structure fire.Naturally the human mind tells us to stay away from dangerous situations and that did not happen with him.
He rushed in kicking down every door in his way and searching the whole house. After constant searching himself and several others dragged out someone. After the incident his gear was burned beyond the glass fiber fabric and down to the woolen fabric. My uncle has no regrets in his words he would rather save someone and risk his own life that stand there and do nothing but watch someone die. He knows the risks but yet he returns...he returns to serve and protect .This is the person i strive to become in the future.
What makes a hero? is a hero someone who runs into a structure fire risking their life to find someone?. A hero is someone who puts thier life on the line to save someone no matter who they are. A hero is someone who leaves thier family when there’s a possibility they will never see them again. All these characteristics match the bravest person i know and am honored to have a personal relationship and bond with. My uncle Cory
Hogan.
