The ancient Greeks made lavish use of perfumes and cosmetics in their religious rites, in grooming, and for medicinal purposes. They built elaborate baths and developed excellent methods of dressing the hair and caring for the skin and nails. Greek women applied preparations of white lead on their faces, kohl on their eyes, and vermilion on their cheeks and lips. The brilliant red pigment was made by grinding cinnabar, a mineral that is the chief source of mercury, to a fine powder. It was mixed with ointment or dusted on the skin in the same way as modern cosmetics are applied…

After reading Peter Cappelli article “Why focusing too Narrowly in College Could Backfire” I started to think about my own educational goals and why I chose to be a hairstylist. When I graduated from high school I attend beauty college, at that time the beauty industry was booming. There was a salon on every corner. There was always walk- ins and new clients available for stylist. Now with the social media craze like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, the African American salon business has fallen because social media outlets. These outlets, teach ordinary people how to do their own hair, and caused stylist to lose clients. We also have the natural hair movement, that took clients that would normally come into the salon for hair weaves and relaxers, and are now wearing their hair in its natural state and don’t need the salon anymore. Another major down fall to African American salon industry was manufacturing companies like L’Oréal and Shea moisture that promotes salon quality products on YouTube for the naturalista. These were a few major changes that happen in…

* Protection. Nail polish and remover can damage many surfaces such as cloth, wood finish and plastic. So, wear an expendable t-shirt and no valuable accessories, sit at a desk or table, protect it with scrap paper (not newsprint, which smudges), and make sure the table itself and anything near it is not particularly valuable or important to keep perfect because there might be a spatter or spill soaking through. You might not want to work near a computer, for instance.…
Such as, the hourly wages. The average wage for a cosmetologist is about twelve dollars and seventy-two cents and tips. Another great thing about just renting a booth is that you can control the hours you work. The greater part of people in this profession will work full time, but there are also people that only work part time and then have a different job on top of it, because cosmetologists have a flexible schedule. They normally have a flexible schedule because a lot of people come to receive the services they provide when they themselves aren’t working. That means that hours for a typical cosmetologist could include busy weeknights and weekends. Cosmetologists also need to have immense physical stamina because they are standing for lengthy periods of time and doing lots of different tasks throughout the day. The Work environment will also most likely be rather relaxed because Cosmetologists need to be friendly and talkative to communicate with people while they are providing services (“Barbers, Hairdressers, and Cosmetologists”). After taking my Skills Confidence Assessment through Kansas Career Pipeline, my results showed that I would be good at providing human services, so this proves that I would be good fit for this…
