While taking my Work Values Assessment, I discovered that income is of low to medium importance in my life. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the average hourly income for a cosmetologist is $11.40 per hour and $23,710 per year (“Barbers, Hairdressers, and Cosmetologists”). Most people would never choose this job because it is below par on the money scale, but this stereotypical assumption does not apply to me. Money isn’t one of the most important things to me because I would rather be doing something that I love everyday to make a lower amount of money, than doing something I despise for the rest of my life to earn a superb livelihood. Another great thing about just renting a booth is that you can control the hours you work. The greater part of people in this profession will work full time, but there are also people that only work part time and then have a different job on top of it, because cosmetologists have a flexible schedule. They normally have a flexible schedule because a lot of people come to receive the services they provide when they themselves aren’t working. That means that hours for a typical cosmetologist could include busy weeknights and weekends. Cosmetologists also need to have immense physical stamina because they are standing for lengthy periods of time and doing lots of different tasks throughout the day. The Work environment will also most likely be rather relaxed because Cosmetologists need to be friendly and talkative to communicate with people while they are providing services (“Barbers, Hairdressers, and Cosmetologists”). After taking my Skills Confidence Assessment through Kansas Career Pipeline, my results showed that I would be good at providing human services, so this proves that I would be good fit for this
