‘Costing and Pricing of Poultry products in Bangladesh – An Evaluation’
1. Introduction:
Agriculture plays an important role in economic development of Bangladesh. Poultry is one of the important subsectors of agriculture. Poultry is domesticated birds kept by humans for the purpose of producing eggs, meat, and/or feathers. Now a day, poultry is another growing industry in Bangladesh. Chickens, ducks, quails and turkeys, pigeons are included in poultry. Chicken, quails and ducks are very popular in poultry business. Day by day, poultry becomes popular in the agricultural industry in our country. Therefore, proper costing and pricing can determine the effectiveness and success of poultry production and business and its contribution in the economic development of the country.
Costing is the classifying, recording and appropriate allocation of expenditure for the determination of the costs of products or services; and for the presentation suitably of arranged data for purposes of control and guidance of management. Costing is the process of determining the cost of doing something e.g. the cost of manufacturing/producing something, rendering a service or performing a function. The article manufactured, service rendered or function performed is known as the object of costing. We want to know the cost of doing something. We may, however, ourselves speaking of the cost of a product as an abbreviation for the cost of acquiring or manufacturing the products. Costing is the system of determining the costs of product. This cost may be total or average cost.
Poultry provides the second most widely eaten meat in the world, accounting for about 30% of meat production worldwide and also provides eggs. Many people of our country are depending for their earning on this industry. So, poultry industry has socio-economic impact in our country.
