Costumes Of A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carole, written by Charles Dickens, is a timeless classic. In the play, Ebenezer Scrooge is an angry old man that hoards his money and rejects anything to do with the Christmas season. His negativity about Christmas isolates him from everyone. Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future visit Scrooge to try to remind him that he used to be a normal person that did not only care about money. They explain that if he keeps this up, he will die alone with no one to mourn him. After the ghost visits, scrooge notices he needs to be nicer to those around him and gives some of his money to charity and tries to mend what he broke. The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse recently put on the play, A Christmas Carol, directed by Mary Leonard. Many things go into getting a play this popular ready for the December showings. Costumes, lighting, and sound design are only a few things needed to make sure the play runs perfectly.
The costumes for each and every character really shows how much work and effort goes into every single detail of the costumes. All of the costumes for the ghosts really shows the dedication of the costume designer for the costumes. For example, the ghost of Christmas past’s costume was angelic and super beautiful. The flowy, white, and sparkly dress she was wearing was made very well. I also thought the crown-like thing on her head made her seem more out of place making her character of a ghost more compelling. The makeup part of the costumes was also done very well. You could really tell how well the makeup was done because the actor that plays Scrooge is obviously not as old as him, so he needed to look older.
