When the cotton gin was created, cotton became such a lucrative crop, that the need for slaves increased dramatically. America was disagreed on slavery into 2 parts: The North and the South. The north was against slavery, and the south was for it. The United States of America split into two parts when the south states broke off: The United States of America, the north, and The Confederate States of America, the south. Abraham Lincoln, who was president of the United States of America at the time, tried to have a peace conference which failed. Those events lead up to the civil war. “However, because of this increased demand, many more slaves were needed to grow cotton and harvest the fields.
