Part A
What are some of the things you believe that the counselor has learned from Steve?
I feel the counselor has learned that no matter what somebody’s limitations may be, with strength and determination they can still accomplish what is handed to them. And also how to be a hero’s travel guide- someone who is supposed to make the clients path shorter, smoother, or less painful (Halstead, 2000).
What are some of the counselor’s behaviors that may change as a result of working with Steve? I think that the counselor will be more sympathetic and have more empathy for his clients because as he stated: he has to be willing to share in the client’s pain as well as new and oftentimes unexpected discoveries (Halstead, 2000). As well as being more patient, because sometimes it takes individuals longer to grasp the situations they may be in. Do you think that most people you come into contact with change you in some way? Yes I do believe that everyone that comes into your life changes you in some way or another. My example is when you are having a bad day or just feel down on your luck you always meet someone that inspires you in some way. I remember when I was introduced to one of my friends that I have now. I was talking to him about how I was in school and I was dealing with a great deal of turmoil in my life at the time and I stopped going, and he asked me why I didn’t go back and I couldn’t give him an answer. To be honest I really hadn’t thought about going back but I took his advice and enrolled back in school. So I truly believe that people are brought into your life for a reason, whether it is good or bad.
How has Steve changed as a result of this relationship? Steve has changed by the way he thinks of himself. Steve had to decide to accept that he was different and doing so he discovered parts of himself that were not normal-they were extraordinary
