After Edmond Dantes from The Count of Monte Cristo escapes from prison, his main goal is life is to get revenge on those who ruined his. While planning his revenge, he makes many wise decisions, but most were unjust and with ill intentions. Edmond Dantes wants revenge on Danglars, Villefort and Fernand for sending him to prison and making him lose Mercedes, the woman he was about to marry. After finding the treasure on the island of Monte Cristo and gaining unlimited wealth, he starts planning his revenge. Before starting his revenge, he helps Monsieur Morrel since he tried very hard to get Dantes free and was one of his only true friends. Morrel is bankrupt and on the verge of suicide after Dantes escapes prison. Edmond secretly helps him under the alias Sinbad the sailor. He gives Morrel a new boat and a large amount of francs. This was a very wise and just decision by Dantes since Morrel tried to free him and needs to be stopped from ending his life. After Dantes was thorough with helping people, he decided to only seek revenge and created the alias the Count of Monte Cristo. His motives are now unjust and almost evil. It was mentioned in the book that when Albert shook his hand, it was cold as ice. In the story, Edmond Dantes goes under the aliases of The Count of Monte Cristo, Lord Wilmore, Abbe Busoni and Sinbad the Sailor. All of these personalities make him a very unpredictable character and the reader never knows which personality of Dantes they will see. Sinbad the sailor represents Dantes’ generous side while The Count of Monte Cristo represents Dantes’ ruthless side that will do anything to get his revenge. He even goes as far as to associate with the bandit Luigi Vampa and to stage a kidnapping of Albert just to get closer to Mercedes and Fernand. Sinbad might also represent Dantes before prison. Edmond Dantes would defiantly be considered a round character because of
