Counter Argument
Standardized tests are mostly given once a year to verify the students’ performance and as well as the learning disabilities of the mass. Burke (1999) maintains that traditionally “standardized” meant that the test is standard or the same in three ways: (a) format/questions, (b) instructions, and (c) time allotment. Uniform instructions were also delivered in a same way to all the students. And to be fair enough, all the students were given the same amount of time to finish the exam.
According to Phelps (2004), the standardized test was really meant to promote test fairness. Its results are used to provide objective information. Standardize all conditions and any variation across measurements is due to differences in the characteristic being measured, which in educational testing is some type of knowledge, skill, or other proficiency. To claim that a test is standardized, it is developed according to cautiously designed test specifications, it is administered under uniform conditions for everyone, and the scoring of the test is also the similar for the test takers. Thus, in testing, standardization is tantamount with equality Phelps
