Countertransferential Reflection
My countertransferential (CT) reactions work effectively to help the patient improve his health. According to Counseling Today, “it is tempting for counselors, in an effort to create rapport with clients who are experiencing a profound loss, to reference their own losses and grief experiences, especially if they resemble the circumstances of the client’s loss... Counselors do use their past experiences to help clients get through their grief but not ordinarily by relating to the client the specific incidences or content of the counselor’s experiences. Rather the counselor’s experiences of loss inform the process and pathos of his or her empathy for the client’s specific losses” (2013). By using what I learned from reading this, I was able to help the patient through his loss by using empathy. I did not try to relate the content of my loss to the patient, I just wanted him to see that I empathize with him because I also loss someone close to me. As a result, the patient started to open up with me. …show more content…
During my check in session with the patient, he would bring up memories of his mother, which he says helps him to feel better. I also encourage him to participate in activities at the nursing home. At first he refused, but later I see that he started to socialize and got to know other patient in the nursing home. He stated that he benefited from the psychiatrist at the nursing home as well as the counseling I provided to him. The nurses, doctor and other staff at the nursing home reported that the patient is starting to sleep and eat better than before. As a result, he is getting stronger and overall his health has started to

I couldn’t believe it. He was very young, and seemed to be quite healthy. At that minute, my whole family sat around the living room sobbing our eyes out. It was probably the saddest moment of my life. For this reason, my family drove over to my Grandma’s house to meet the rest of my family. Once we got there, everyone was not doing well at all. We all mourned together for the next few days. During those few days, I noticed how everyone in our family accompanied each other, and how close we all became. I now realize that family is the most important thing, and they will always be there for…

Grief occurs in response to the loss of someone or something. The loss may involve a loved one, a job, or possibly a role, or an anticipated change due to the diagnosis made (in case of a patient). Anyone can experience grief and loss; however, individuals are unique in how they experience this event. Grief, itself, is a normal and natural response to loss. Each individual grieves in his or her own way. While many people will find that they do not need or want help with their grief, some people will seek individual counseling. Others want group support. Every loss is different in some way, but grief often shares common characteristics of leaving people feeling isolated by feelings of sadness and loss. Through support groups, individuals can find validation and feel like they are not alone. When there are so many reasons why a patient should be grieving, for the purpose of this response I will reflect on a patient who just learned about his/her new diagnosis.…

As the professionals we need to keep an open communication with the client to become able to seek options for the issues at hand and help them become more succeful in life. When we have an accomplishment we have a set ahead in the client’s life and can move on but when we have a disappointment we have a setback. These setbacks can cause a major role in how the client reacts to treatment and how they will fulfill the rest of their care plan. This could also cause them to lose focus in how they feel on life and why they are even involved in the client/human service care at all.…

It is a fact of life that every individual will experience loss and grief at some point in their lives but in certain circumstances they may be unaware of it. Loss can come in many disguises from the easily recognisable bereavement, to redundancy, children leaving home, divorce, relocation, disfigurement, chronic illness, miscarriage, loss of a close pet, abortion and others. When a client presents for Counselling, it is vital to be alert for losses, both recent and historical, to check if there are unresolved issues because grief can be easily missed or misinterpreted. Chrysalis (2012) states that there are two ways in which a therapist will encounter the need to work with loss and grief. These are:…

    Being A Nurse Essay

I believe one of the hardest aspects of being a nurse is having to deal with a patient’s death, especially if it’s unexpected, and you have grown close to them. Although I am not a nurse, I do know the pain of losing someone dear to me, just as every individual does. As a new nurse, of course, it would be difficult to handle a sudden and bloody patient death. As of right now I don’t know how I would handle it because I have not had to face such a situation. Dealing with a patient’s sudden death would be really emotional, but I would try to move on from the experience. I usually try to make light of a depressing situation. When I have issues or something on my mind, I talk to friends about how I am feeling. I think a way to get pass through…

Lewis, even when he was grieving did not understand the grieving of his stepchildren Douglas and David(Lewis,9).This part of the journal made me realize that it is not just different people from different families that feel loss differently, it is also people from the same family. I have often not felt comfortable with sharing my feelings of loss with members of my family because I am not sure how to approach the subject. My way of grieving has always been very different from my family and my way of grieving in a sense has always felt weird in a way to me, because I wonder why I cannot seem to relate to members of my own family through the same loss or tragedy. But, Lewis had the same problems and therefore I can feel encouraged that I do not need to have the same way of grieving as the rest of my family and there is not something wrong with the way I…
