Courage the Cowardly Dog
Courage the Cowardly Dog is the name of an animated horror cartoon. The cartoon ran four seasons (52 episodes) from 1999 to 2002 on the Cartoon Network. The creator and executive producer is John R. Dilworth. Courage is a pink dog that belongs to Muriel and Eustace Bagge. He lives with them on their farm in the middle of Nowhere. Strange occurrences are a part of his daily life on the farm. He is afraid and anxious of most things, usually resulting with him panicking or overreacting. Courage is extremely attached to Muriel and finds comfort with her. Most of the time he strives to keep Muriel safe from any potential harm that he foresees happening on the farm.
Courage is not an ordinary dog. His story is not unique in that most puppies are separated from their dog parents at some time after their births. The interesting part is how Courage is separated from his parents. While visiting a veterinarian for a routine check-up, Courage’s parents are kidnapped and sent off into space. As Courage watches the evil vet send his parents off, he then runs to various rooms in hope of finding them. As Courage opens each door, he is met with horrific and terrifying animal experiments that have gone wrong. He finally escapes into an alley, abandoned with nowhere to go. As he waits shivering by an old dumpster, Courage is found and rescued by Muriel Bagge. She takes him to her farm in the middle of Nowhere to live. Eustace Bagge, her husband is not friendly and kind like Muriel. In fact he is cynical, mean, and grumpy, finding pleasure in scaring Courage by making faces or wearing a large, creepy mask while shouting, “Ooga-booga-booga!” Sometimes Eustace blows a trumpet in Courage’s face and startles him. Eustace refers to Courage as “stupid dog” rather than using his name. On a daily basis, Courage is bombarded with strange and frightening situations;
