Course Description:
Chemistry is a fundamental science incorporating hands-on laboratory experience. It is a rigorous course both conceptually and mathematically, and is designed to introduce you to the core concepts and general principles of chemistry. Students in Honors Chemistry will cover the same curriculum as standard, but with a more rigorous pace and increased math component.
Course Outline:
The topics to be covered in this course are taken directly from the published Science Learning Standards for Sharon Public Schools in chemistry. The curriculum will be covered with an emphasis in problem solving skills, critical thinking skills and effective use of technology. The following topics will be covered throughout the year:
Properties of Matter Chemical Reactions Atomic Structure
Measurement and Units Stoichiometry Periodic Law
Significant Figures Acids and Bases Chemical Bonding
Chemical Nomenclature Redox Reactions Molecular Structure
Chemical Formulas and Equations Gas Laws

Chemistry students will be expected to:
Solve problems analytically and critically
Use technology appropriately and effectively
Behavioral/Class Expectations and School-Wide Civic and Social Expectations:
All students will be expected to adhere to the general guidelines on student behavior as provided in the Parent/Student Handbook. Students will also be expected to meet the civic and social expectations of an SHS student, also provided within the Parent/Student Handbook. Chemistry students will also be expected to adhere to the following class rules:
NO food/drink/gum will be allowed within a chemistry classroom. Chemistry rooms double as laboratories.
During laboratory experiments, students will be expected to follow ALL safety guidelines. Any student who fails
