With the way things are in the world now it is very hard to find a good paying job that offers benefits and other incentives without having a degree of some sort. The majority of jobs that I see advertised in newspapers or online require at the very least an associates degree or a bachelors degree. If you have a degree it opens up a wide range of opportunities that might not be available to you if you didn’t. With a degree you are more likely to have a higher annual income, benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k, life insurance), and more likely to receive a promotion.
When you have a degree from a college it gives you a feeling of accomplishment and can help you in knowing that you have finished a goal that you have made for yourself. It is a very nice feeling knowing that all the hard work and dedication you have put into your education has finally paid off. My academic goal it to acquire an associates degree in Criminal Justice so I can start a career as a paralegal. I can’t pursue my career of choice unless I have a minimum of two years of college schooling and getting my degree will help me to do this. I’ve only just begun with my efforts in attaining this goal, but it is one that I feel will better my future. I’ve been interested in paralegal work for a while now and there’s no time like now to pursue my goals and start accomplishing what I want to in life.
Over the last nine weeks in this class I have learned how much dedication and time I must commit myself to so that I can complete my degree. This class hasn’t always been easy but it has shown me what I should expect for the future in my academic goals. I have also learned how important critical thinking is. I know I may sound like a broken record concerning critical thinking but I feel very strongly about using this skill in everyday life. Learning this skill in this class really has helped prepare me for my future online

In todays society, having a college education is one of the single most important factors when applying for a job. Employers expect at the minimum for applicants to have an Associates degree. However, many employers prefer hiring individuals who have obtained a bachelors degree or higher. In “Are Too Many People Going to College?”, Charles Murray discusses the importance of Americans sharing the same basic core knowledge (223). Having a college degree makes an individual more money than an individual who just has a high school diploma. It provides people with a wide variety of opportunity regarding career paths and educational experiences. Those who obtain a college degree often times have a more secure future regarding their job and if they decide to advance to a different job. Sadly, a big reason why college degrees don’t always promise success stems from a weak job market flooded with candidates also possessing degrees and similar qualifications. Put simply: college grads are a dime a dozen. This results in accepting positions wherever they are available, whether it is in a different field of study, or even in a position that requires no college education whatsoever. Emily Cohn discusses why this is in her article “In Weak Job Market, One In Two College Graduates Are Jobless or Underemployed”, she states that “Young adults with bachelor 's degrees are increasingly scraping by in lower-wage jobs – waiter or waitress, bartender, retail clerk or receptionist, for example – and that 's confounding their hopes a degree would pay off despite higher tuition and mounting student loans” (Cohn, Emily). Why are these educated grads with Bachelor Degrees keeping blue-collar jobs that require a high school diploma or even less? Last year alone 53.6%, or about 1.5 million individuals, possessing bachelor’s degrees under the age of 25 were unemployed or…

First, many employers look deeper than just having a college degree. Just going to college and getting a degree in a desired field does not guarantee you the job of your dreams. Many companies will want more than just having a degree, they want to see experience in the field or the potential to grow. If someone decided to get a college education, it wouldn’t be a wise idea to believe it guarantees the person the job of their dreams. The most it will due is make you look more qualified.…
