courtship long and dead
Courtship- Long and Dead There are several reason why courtship doesn’t exist in the U.S anymore. Times have changed from our great ancestors to today’s generations, and for that reason courtship has longed been buried. No woman or man knows the significance of being a lady or gentleman in today’s era. We are too caught up in getting what we want, when we want it, and it has become a state of oblivion in our minds. So with that note much has occurred in our society, from high rates of divorces to self centeredness. We no longer have a clue in being ladies and gentlemen’s. If the past could see the present would we be living in sin? I believe it is it something that couldn’t be prevented. From these fast moving days, who has time to stop and smell the roses. One big problem is our self narcissistic ways. We think about what we want and not what we should do. Today women and men think about their own satisfaction not realizing that centuries ago they would of become an outcast and kicked out by society. When it comes to courtship, it’s no longer taken to as a serious matter, it’s just something we only see in movies. “I fear […] one who thinks courtship can make a comeback must at least try to understand what he is up against,”(p327) said Leon R. Kass in “The End of Courtship,” which is something to be taken under consideration. From high rates of sexual transmitted disease to one night stands, we should not be surprised to know that our urges take over and our minds follow. When it comes to sexual relationships, we no longer show the value for one’s self. The outcome of this act is thousands of deaths per year over HIV and sexual transmitted diseases that could have been prevented. But now sex is no longer followed by monogamy. Many reasons come to mind in why courtship is extinct and the major cause if money. Dating, marriages and even status plays a major role in today’s relationships. Going out on a simple date is no longer as easy as it use to be. From
