Dear American Apparel, I have been to two open calls and applied online twice. I am interested working as part-time sales associate and maybe move to visuals as time goes on. I’m also open to any other job positions that are available. I feel since the last time I applied I gained tons and tons of experience in the fashion industry. I went to a couple fashion programs throughout the summer that changed my outlook on the world of fashion completely. I plan to pursue visual communications, product development, or both.
I went to Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California for their high school program and an intensive 3 weeklong course at Columbia College. It counted as 3 college credits, which was a plus! I also am now in advanced fashion classes right now at school and we’re currently working on some competitions and fashion shows. I’m looking to build up my portfolio so I can be prepared for application season. I have already been speaking with the University of the Arts London, and also FIDM recommended for me to apply a year early. During my time at Columbia we worked on a reconstruction deconstruction project where we had to transform the garment into something new. We also had to style the photo shoot, photograph it, find a model, and pick the location all by ourselves. I have put two photos of my project into this folder so you can get more of a feel for it.
Since August I have been enrolled in my high schools fashion class and I can already say I’ve already learned so much. We have a fashion show coming up soon where you make your garment out of trash and I made a dress made out of straws. I am very proud of that look and I feel it shows how far I’ve come in the past couple months.
