Writing Assignment #1 – Cover Letter
May 28, 2013
Donna Stargell, HR/Internship Manager
Wawa Corporation
260 W Baltimore Pike
Media, PA 19063
Good morning Ms. Stargell,
I am excited to apply for the Accounting Internship position at Wawa Headquarters. I am currently a Junior in The Fox School of Business at Temple University, with the majority of my accounting coursework achieved. I have also worked in the finance & accounting fields for over 6 years before going back to school. I believe that my vast experience and knowledge of general accounting practices will become an asset for your company now and in the future.
Before starting my college education, I worked for over 6 years at Mitchell & Ness, a multi-million dollar retail clothing company and store in Philadelphia, extensively in their inventory department. I spent time during the year working with our various warehouse managers to investigate the root cause of inventory adjustments. Working in a position that required attention to detail further taught me ways to improve my problem-solving skills and give me a change to work independently as well as in a team environment. Being able to grow with that company from working on their retail sales floor to their corporate office gave me a full view of the company’s day to day operations and gave me a better perspective on work.
Starting in January of 2013, I have been working towards my Bachelors in Business Administration, with a focus on Accounting at Temple University. I have completed multiple intermediate accounting classes, where I learned about asset and liability valuation, as well as beginning to evaluate long-term investments.
Along with the knowledge gained from work & classroom experience, I am skilled in MS Word & Excel, as well as QuickBooks. Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this position. Please contact me to further discuss my qualifications.
