But they also have many differences so let’s talk about what are the differences and the similarities. One of the similarities “The first false face”, “The origin of the buffalo and the corn”, and the “Coyote” have three of them teach a lesson and for the Coyote it teaches to not be so gullible. The coyote gave the little blue fox four chances then the coyote drowned in the cheese of the moon of the reflection of the lake. The first chance was when he was going to guard the “chickens” but they turned out to be just birds and then the second time they …show more content…
The things in the coyote was to be sly that why they used a fox and a coyote because when you think of a coyote you don't really think of a smart animal you think of a brute. In the buffalo and the corn you had two men and a old women. These men were disrespectful to the old women and they got a lot of food from her from learning and the difference from this one and the Coyote is that it uses tribe people instead of animals. The last one is the first false face and it is about a tribe member that is called the medicine man and he can heal people and is also not about animal but has animals in it. It has a man that passive aggressively challenges him and loses horribly.

They all have different settings and “The first false face”, “The origin of the buffalo and the corn”, and the “Coyote” The pueblo tribe is in the south west and is the coyote and this is in the desert. The cheyenne tribe is the midwest and is in the great plains. The seneca tribe is in the north east and in the appalachian mountains.

What are these stories based off of and the tribe it is by? Where are these stories taken place and why? These are two of many questions that have been answered in this

We have indexed our American Indian legends section by tribe to make them easier to locate; however, variants on the same legend are often told by American Indians from different tribes, especially if those tribes are kinfolk or neighbors to each other. Animal spirits are said to be able to change into human form. He continues the poem by:Here he is implying that within him is an animal, and this animal is Coyote. The animal and Ortiz are one in the same, which makes Coyote and Ortiz one in the same as well. The closeness of the two described here shows Ortiz’s familiarity with the “animal”, a familiarity that comes from living a life with an animal or animal figure as one’s guide. Coyote is the most fitting guide for Ortiz because no one knows trouble, and getting out of it, like Coyote. " The Creation, According to Coyote" poem has a mythical context also. It is a short telling of the Keresan Pueblo creation myth and the story of War Twins who lead the people " upwards through successive worlds until they emerge through a single sipapu ( hole in the ground) onto the earth's…

All three of the short stories, “How Stories Came to Earth,” “Coyote Steals Fire,” and “Master Cat: Puss in Boots,” apply the literary theme anthropomorphism, which is the attribution of human characteristics to gods, animals, or inanimate objects because the tricksters, which are animals, possess human traits, ambitions, and emotions. In the first story, the trickster, a spider named Anansi, shows human qualities in many ways, one being that he is married to another spider named Aso. Together, the two spiders show another humanistic trait because they possess curiosity and wish to “know the beginnings and endings of things” (Kaleki 40). This shows anthropomorphism because although Anansi and Aso are insects, they exhibit the desire to learn the history of earth and how everything came to be. The trickster in the second story, Coyote, although not seeking the stories of earth’s creation, shows anthropomorphism through the way he develops a game to play with Thunder. He achieves his goal, obtaining fire for the tribes, through this game since Thunder agrees that if Coyote wins, “[he] ha[s] to give…

The setting takes place near a pond where the ducks were swimming. The protagonist in this short fable, is Iktomi a greedy, mischievous, deceitful, lazy, and stupid. The antagonists are the ducks, the two trees, and the coyote. The plot is man against man which is Iktomi against the ducks and the coyote. Iktomi tricks the ducks into dancing around fire then kills them one by one. Iktomi wants revenge from the coyote but gets thrown into the fire instead. There is also man against the environment Iktomi against the wind. The wind and the trees won’t let him sleep and kept him from eating his meal. Also man against himself because of his own laziness and stupidity Iktomi isn’t able to eat the ducks. Instead of staying awake and doing the process of cleaning the ducks he does it by placing the ducks in open fire. That gave the opportunity for the coyote to eat the ducks. The theme of the story is that when you lie and deceive sooner or later it will catch up to you. The story is told by omniscient point of view because the author uses words such as he, they, and etc. Some other elements used in this short story are symbol, allegory, irony, and fantasy. “Iktomi and the Dancing Ducks” is allegory because everything is symbolic such as, the name of Iktomi, ducks, and the two trees. The name Iktomi symbolizes coward, malicious, lazy, and dishonest. The ducks represent innocence, the trees represent brothers, and the coyote stands for smart. Situational irony is very strong, since the results will be the opposite of what Iktomi expects. Iktomi assumes he will enjoy a good meal the “ducks”, but the…
