Question 2A (10 marks) Read the text below.

10th October 2011 Mafat Village Reunion Island Dear Mum and Dad,

I hope you are fine. I have reached Reunion Island safely. The plane journey was very short as Reunion is very near to Mauritius.

Aunt Mila and Uncle Sam came to pick me up at the airport as planned. I am staying with them in their farmhouse.

Today we visited Mafat Primary School where Aunt Mila works. It is a really big school. There are about fifteen classrooms, a large computer room and a library which is full of books. There is a football ground and a volleyball pitch as well.

Tomorrow we are going to see Piton de La Fournaise. The volcano is not erupting at present but we will see volcanic rocks from the previous eruption.

Call me when you are free.

Love,

Max

Question 2B (20 marks)
Read the text below.

During the last holidays, the inhabitants of River Bay village organised a fishing competition for children. The participants took their fishing equipment and reached the seaside at 8 a.m. sharp, accompanied by their parents. As the competition started, Misha cast her line into the water below the cliff. Her father had told her that big fish swam there. She really wanted to catch the biggest fish of the day. She had been looking forward to this fishing competition for months. The prize for the biggest fish was a huge trophy, and she had already cleared a spot for it on her shelf. “Got one!” someone yelled. Misha recognised the voice of Krish. He was pulling in a big “Capitaine” fish. Misha became worried. “What if I don’t catch any fish?” she asked. “Be patient,” said her father reassuringly. Suddenly, Misha felt something pulling her line. She pulled it back gently but it did not budge. She tried again and the line tugged back. “I’ve caught a fish!” she exclaimed, as she began to pull it towards the shore. It was really strong. She tried to imagine how big it might be. Then, to everybody’s surprise, a large green animal appeared at the surface of the water. It was not a fish, but a turtle! Everyone gathered around to admire Misha’s catch. She had to work very hard to bring it ashore. Then Misha’s father set it free because turtles are an endangered species. The turtle turned back and swam away. “Oh, no!” cried Misha. Mr Davon, the contest judge, saw the dismay on Misha’s face. He immediately announced, “The competition is not yet over, but I already know who is going to win a special prize!” Misha’s eyes lit up. She was glad the turtle had not been hurt with her hook. She was also pleased because she had already won a prize and still had the chance to catch the biggest fish of the day! He hasn’t got his family to encourage him to get out and participate in sport, so he let himself go and does not get motivated. From his point of view his health is good and is living the “good life” because he hasn’t got support to get his life back to what he was. The “good life” from his view is to go out every weekend or night and party out late. He drinks alcohol and smokes so he is ruining his health every day, but he doesn’t see it is a problem. He might not have got taught the right health ways and think he can do whatever he want because he is young and free. This will affect him later in life but he doesn’t seem to care as he is living how he has wanted to, his family were the ones encouraging him to do this, and without them around he doesn’t feel the need to do it.…

The 53rd General Council convened in Orlando, Florida, August 4-7, 2009. Nearly 30,000 people attended from around the nation. The General Council gatherings were marked with a tangible sense of God’s presence and the prophetic impact of the ministry of God’s Word. Over the past 2 years the Assemblies of God family is one of only a very few religious bodies in the United States that has been growing. We thank God for this and yet seek to find the Lord’s enabling power and creative wisdom for even greater spiritual impact on our culture in the years just ahead.
