The act of cramming is defined as the practice of working intensively to absorb large volumes of informational material in a short amount of time. I bet most of you students have done this act or maybe, did this in every test, right? Yes, maybe cramming is the most effective thing to be done before test, it is easy and quick, but do you know the negative effects of cramming? Most of us probably did not know and because of this reason, I will now (idk what word should be inserted in here -_-) the negative effects of cramming and also, how to stop cramming.
The first negative effect from cramming is that your brain does not retain information. Of course, after you finished cramming, you will feel like an expert in the study, but after the test, the information has left your brain. Practice tests are an effective way to retain information and to assess what you actually know about the subject matter. However, there is no time for such a method when cramming.
The second effect is sleep problems. Why is this so? If you are cramming, you are staying up later than usual to jam all of that material into your head. Students who do not have enough sleep have trouble learning, which further pushes them into the academic hole. Furthermore, students might take stimulants to help them stay awake through the night. These powerful types of drugs can cause imbalances and harm in the body, and possibly even create an addiction if the student keeps using them. The last effect that I will discuss is putting your long term learning abilities at risk. Since you cannot remember that information the next day, recalling the facts and details in a few months will be nearly impossible. This presents a problem when it comes to midterm or final examination time, but also when you need to know this information in your job.
Then, how to stop cramming and avoid these things to happen to us? First, Be active. Reading and studying are typically a passive activities and bore the
