Crank Paragraph
How I became a bookworm
My sophomore year, around April I started reading "Crank" by Ellen Hopkins. I only got somewhere around the 100th page and then stopped reading, because I was always busy with school work. we read a book in class called "Looking for Alaska", I truly enjoyed reading it, that is when I started slowly getting more interested in reading. When school ended for the summer, I had to take summer school, and for my English class I had to read a book and give a presentation over it. The book I chose to read was "The Story of My Life" By Helen Keller, before that I have not been able to finish a book I selected by my liking in almost two years.

Ellen Hopkins said, "I didn't start it looking for publication, let alone expecting the book to become the phenom it has.", I found this on her website {EllenHopkins.com}. I think this quote is interesting because she did not write to get famous she wrote just to try to understand what just happened and what was happening with her life. I put this quote in this paper because when I wrote my book, my friends who read the story really enjoyed it, but I did not write it for people to enjoy or to get interested in, I just wrote for myself, because it went with everything that was going on in my life at that time and helped me get through my depression. I enjoy writing and reading about things that I choose to write or read about, once I am interested in reading or writing something I can get to a point where I do not want to stop reading or writing. If I choose to write something I can write pages and pages, same with reading, if I find an interesting enough book I can read for hours without getting bored. Also getting interested in reading I have learned to not give up on a book when the it starts out boring, it will soon get better and if it is not interesting half way through than the book is not for you. Even though Ellen Hopkins has got me more interested in reading than what I was, I still have more work I could do with reading, there are still some times where I do not read as much as I

Paulsen didn’t have it easy growing up, though at a young age he developed a love for reading. From not living with his family until he was seven to him writing his first book in 1966, experiences shaped who he was and who he became. Since researching Paulsen and his books, I have realized that most of his books are based on experiences that he as a person had encountered through his life. This allows Paulsen to give vivid details throughout his novels. Which in turn engages the reader even further into the stories. Paulsen is a very notable American author and one of my…

I read it whenever I got the chance. Day and night. The story had come alive and dragged me into it. When I read, I experienced a feeling I had never felt. Everytime I read a chapter from the book, it drawed me in more. I traveled into the book and soon it became a part of me. One day it was Chapter 13 and the next it was Chapter 21. There was no stopping me as I read and read and read. I began to talk to my friends about it and they recommended other books for me to read. I finished the first book, then I read the second, “Catching Fire,” and lastly I read “Mockingjay”. This was the best book series I had ever read in all of my eleven years of being on earth. My brain began to beg me for more reading material as time grew on. Reading began to teach me new things that I hadn’t known before. Early adulthood proved I was in my prime with reading; I averaged two books a week. I took pride in the amount of books that filled the shelves in my home. Paperbackswap.com was the closest I got to any form of social media, and it was to swap books with other members. My reading and writing started to slow down in my middle twenties. Life sort of happened. First, a boyfriend, then the demands of a home, with the babies coming soon after. I never fully let it go, though; it stayed tucked away until the right moment showed itself.…

I didn’t like most of the books my teachers were picking for us to read so I felt like I had to force myself to read them and it caused me to even stop reading books outside of school…

When I was younger I was very active and had no desire to read or learn and was more focused on playing basketball at recesses then on the topics being taught. My passion for basketball originated in my childhood when I would play the game at local parks and at home with friends and family. As I entered high school I tried out for and made the basketball team at Bell Gardens High. Because I wanted to gain a competitive edge, my passion for the game provoked me to want to learn more about the game, about key players such as Kobe Bryant, and about what made him such a good player. I started reading basketball magazines and the more I read about basketball, the better player I became. As time went on I grew a passion for knowledge and reading, and wanted to become a more competitive person all around. Therefore, I decided to expand my reading into topics such as politics, religion and business.…
