Crash's main white characters are depicted in comfortable positions, both socially and economically. Jean and Rick Cabot, played by Sandra Bullock and Brendan Fraser respectively, are well-off L.A. socialites, as Rick is the District Attorney of Los Angeles. Tony Danza makes a cameo as a television executive producer who tells Black producer Cameron Thayer (Terence Howard), one of the few financially secure (but not exactly socially secure) minority roles in the film, to make one of his actors speak "more black" because that character was "supposed to be the dumb one." John Ryan, played by Matt Dillon, and Tom Hansen, played by Ryan Phillippe, are both police officers in the Los Angeles Police Department. All the main white characters are never shown struggling with their financial situations. Meanwhile, many (but notably, not all) of the minority characters are portrayed as destitute or powerless socially. Michael Pena's character Daniel is a working-class younger Hispanic family man with a young daughter. The daughter is shown sleeping under the bed because she heard a gunshot, which we find out scares her because she had a bullet go through her room in the old house they have just moved from, which Daniel comments was a "bad neighborhood." He works as for a 24-hour locksmith who goes on a call at Jean and Rick Cabot's house, where after being robbed at gunpoint by a pair of young Black car thieves named Anthony (Ludacris) and Peter (Larenz Tate), Jean shouts out that she wants the locks changed because she thinks Daniel will sell off key to his supposed gang member friends. Daniel is within earshot and hears her comments from down the hallway. We also see Daniel fix the back door lock of Farhad's convenience store. Daniel warns that the door itself needs replacing, which Farhad, an older Persian man, seems to misunderstand and eventually leads to a screaming match where Farhad accuses Daniel of being a cheater. Yet Officer Ryan's main plight in the film deals

Jean falls down the stairs after she gets off the phone with her friend and just lies at the bottom of the stairs whimpering. I believe that Anthony is a character that showed both his public and private self throughout the film. He was very opinionated about not liking white people and he did not care about what people thought of it. Anthony was very proud to be an African American and it showed throughout the movie. You also got to see a softer side of him towards the end when he discovered the van full of foreign women and children. Instead of selling them like they were brought over to the country for, he decided to let them go free. This showed a very caring and sensitive side of Anthony that we didn’t get to see in the beginning of the movie.…

Movies are a powerful outlet to depict certain racial observations. Theaters insulate moviegoers in a cocoon-like setting with little distractions. This setting is an ideal situation to sway an audience. Movies can desensitize people to issues and shift public attitudes through influence. While there are many real scenarios portrayed in fictional film, to say that movies similar to Crash are completely accurate portrayals of reality is an oversight. The movie Crash, directed by Paul Haggis, is an attempt to accurately portray the various racial, ethnic, and racial stereotypes within the cast of characters…

“Please fasten your seat belt sir.” The voice of the flight steward woke me back from my reverie. After what seemed like thousands of years, finally I was taking a long break from my official and marital stress. I just couldn’t stop day dreaming about how perfect my vacation in Hawaii would be! As my flight took off, the excitement grew even further to feel the warm, sandy beaches sparkling in the sun, the sweet smelling pine trees and the luscious aroma of Pena Coladas, which would be welcoming me in a short while. I was so glad to leave back my chaotic life, which had made a person as carefree as me stress out at the drop of a hat, that all the fuss and the children whining around me just didn’t seem to matter at all.…

Everyone makes mistakes. No matter who you are, I would venture to say that there’s been at least one time in your life when you’ve done something and wished you would have approached it differently. It’s just a fact of life that things don’t always work out the way that they are intended to. Especially the first time around, or when it’s something new. Like when you’re a child growing up and you trip over your loose shoe string that you forgot to tie, and fall down and scrape your knee. Or when you take a wrong turn down a long road and end up farther away from your destination than planned. Things like this happen all off the time. As you go through life, you will make mistakes, which is perfectly normal. The most important thing, is that you learn from them.…

    Car Accident

I used to be the kind of person who thought nothing could ever hurt me, until a usual morning turned into a disaster, which made me realize that life can be taken abruptly. My event is my car accident. After waving goodbye to my parents, I was off to work on a beautiful evening. It was August 2, 2002 I worked at Burger Kind which was in Perrysburg, Ohio. I remember listening that day to Alanis Morisette, looking at the beautiful wild daisies freshly blossoming on the side of the road. Then, all of a sudden, I heard a loud noise, which was the driver's side tire blowing out. That's when everything spun out of control. I remember hearing the air bag bursting out then lost control. I headed straight for the ditch and end for end my convertible two times and smashed into the ditch upside down the opposite way I was going. Soon after the convertible started to roll, I was knocked unconscious. When I woke up, my front half of my body was in between the front seat with my head in the back seat. A neighbor who was checking his field saw the entire event and rushed to help me. He called 911 for me once they arrived they had to use jaws of Life to get me out of the car which was in the ditch. A few minutes after I hear life flight landing. Within minutes, I was in the trauma center at Toledo Hospital. Later, I was in my room with minor injuries and stayed for observation. After that day, I came to realize that life is too precious to be taken for granted. I try to take each day and make it worthwhile. When my history teacher gives me reading homework, I rejoice in the fact I am here to read it at all, and that I can learn, instead of being a vegetable in the hospital like so many are after terrible car accidents. A doctor told me that I was lucky to be alive. Now, I live every day like it is my…
