Everyone has the right to have means of living. To be treated fairly in the ever scrupulous world of employment is what we really desire. However, a lot of times, especially in our society, we couldn’t help but think why such an unfair treatment to applicants happens. More often than not, equal employment opportunity hasn’t still been fully achieved by most of the Filipino job seekers. In the previous report about equal employment opportunity, we were informed that discrimination has no place in the world of employment. Whatever race, color of skin, gender preference, age and physical capacities a person may have, he shall be treated equally and be given equal opportunities to have a job. This idea is indeed beneficial not only to the employees who seek job but also to the employers who henceforth have a greater chance of getting the most suitable workforce that they will use as human resource in their respective organizations. Moreover, it would somehow lessen the rate of unemployment since most of the unemployed will not be apprehensive if they will be provided with a wide-array of job options to choose from. Had it been lessened, other positive results would occur like decrease in poverty and malnutrition rate, crime rate and out of school youth rate. Thus, our country will more or less thrive on these positive notes if we rest on the idea of providing equality among applicants. However, our government shall be emphatic to reinforce the implementing guidelines in giving equal employment opportunities (EEO’s) to the Filipinos. To be fairly honest, these unalienable rights of each Filipino are rather ambiguous and far from the comprehension of the average Juan Dela Cruz. Most of the time, short-changing and suppression of employers to applicants or even to employees still exist simply because these pitiful job hunters do not exactly know what their rights are. Ergo, our government has to consider each angle wherein discrimination and unfair treatment, especially to those who fall under the poverty line, will be totally eliminated. Also in that regard, information campaign on labor code and the concrete rights of every individual to be treated fairly and be given EEO’s must be accomplished so that each will be guided accordingly and no one will step on somebody else’s rights. To sum it up, the aim of EEO’s to each of us will just be totally achieved if and only if everyone is informed of his rights as an individual who seeks for adequate means of living. One will be treated equally if one knows and asserts for his rights.
