Actress Amanda Laura Bynes was born on April 3, 1986 and grew up in Thousand Oaks, California. She is the youngest of three children of Lynn, a dental assistant and office manager, and Rick Bynes, a dentist. Bynes' ancestors immigrated from Ireland, Poland, Russia and Romania, and her maternal grandparents are from Toronto, Ontario. Her father is Catholic and her mother is Jewish (“Amanda Bynes Biography,” 2014). Bynes is interested in illustration and fashion design and acting. Bynes has previously had her own fashion line which has sold nationwide. She left Los Angeles and moved to New York to pursue her fashion dream (Nessif & Rosenbaum, 2012). All of that changed quickly, as the once apple of the teen scenes’ eye falls from grace.
Case Study
Bynes began acting professionally at the age of seven. Her acting career flourished as a child star in the late 1990s and early 2000s on the Nickelodeon series All That and The Amanda Show (Tamargo, 2008). From 2002 to 2006, she starred on the sitcom What I Like About You on The WB. Bynes has had starring roles in several Hollywood films, including What a Girl Wants, She's the Man, Hairspray, Sydney White and Easy A. Her rise to fame was quick and well documented. She won several awards for her acting including the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, Teen Choice Award, and Young Artist Awards and was nominated for several other prestigious awards (“Amanda Bynes Biography”, 2014) She was the American Sweetheart, clean cut and representing the American girl.
In 2010 Bynes behavior started on a downward spiral. She started by saying she was tired of acting and was going to retire. She later recanted (Taylor, 2013). Soon after her physical appearance became out of character with her clean cut image, using odd hair colors and wacky outfits.
