Learning objectives:
The reason why I chose this topic because I found most children love to gather at this area. Also, the learning trait of this age group is to manipulate toys.
I want to kids can learn from this topic at the following area:
Shapes and Spatial concept
Sharing and team work experience
Be creative based on imitation
Expand children’s vocabulary and language by talking about their buildings. Some new words like : front, back, top bottom.
Teach number concepts by suggesting that children put away blocks in sets. Ask some number questions, like how many square blocks did you use for your building, etc. Emphasize concepts about geometry and spatial sense by organizing size and shape on the shelf.
Encourage children to explore physical science by providing balance scales, mirrors and pipes. Expand children’s knowledge of life science by adding wooden animals so children can build animal homes such as farms, zoos. Etc.
Encourage learning about spaces and geography by taking about roads children are making and where they go. Display pictures and help children to figure out how to imitate and reproduce.
Promote drama skills by encouraging children to use blocks structures as the setting for dramatic play.
How did the children respond?
When I posted some pictures about different kinds of blocks and different buildings by using these blocks, children were so excited and talkative, they all said: I want to make this one, I want to make that one, I want to make one like that one…..etc.”
