Creative Writing: A Knight's Tale
He came like a child to the mass, and left like a baby. The boy was the only person that did not attempt to pull the sword from the stone. “Come on son try it,” his father pleaded. Yet still he would not move. Our strongest people tried first, then our weakest tried. Neither group was successful. So it stood there gleaming like a star, untouched by nature and untouched by man. Our governors met quickly to decided on the fate of the sword, ¨We shall hold a tournament, the winner of this tournament shall be granted the sword and be its paramount protector the sword,¨ The governor's exclaimed.
So it was that anyone and everyone that was able entered knowing with the mindset that even if they can't remove it, its theirs. As the tournament continued men started to progress and defeat better and better knights. The young boy was the younger brother of one such knight, this was the man I was to fight. I didn't expect to beat him till I noticed he had no sword so I thought “easy win he may as well just leave.” Yet moments before it started his brother presented a kingly blade with a silver pummel with a golden star within it, and an ornate silver hilt, it looks more like a ceremonial sword than any real blade. Yet that was before the blade struck my horse. A huge gash ran down his side, I didn't understand. What had I done to upset the

I don't know, my brother appeared with it, but he wouldn't tell me how he got it.¨ The knight said. At once the knights father came to him and exclaimed, ¨Son Come Fast, Arthur has to show us something¨ so off they went with me following behind in the shadows. Soon they arrived at the stone and I saw something I would never forget. There was the boy whom was Arthur and there he pulled the sword up from its resting place. At once both the father and the knight bowed down for unbeknownst to me it had said on the stone ¨He who relieves the stone of this blade is the king of england and all its

"You're going to lose, princess, there’s no way you can take down a son of Ares, ” you heard the boy in front of you boast as he drew his sword. You narrowed your eyes and waited for him to come after you before you started your plan. He lunged, making you step to the side casually as if his attack was nothing. ‘Clumsy fighter, maybe I can trick him into going into a vulnerable position,’ you thought as he went to slash your throat. You dodged to the side and quickly dropped to the ground and roundhouse kicking him on the left leg.…

He is described as a man, “None had seen...with sight in that hall so grand” (197). Immediately he asks for the leader of the house to which he extends his request for a contest to King Arthur. Shortly after, the unnamed knight reveals the rules of the game. Carl Martin, in his essay, “The Cipher of Violence,” elaborates, “ The Green Knight reveals here that while the typical warrior-noble engineers his aggrandizement through public displays of prowess… he is also bound by a strict code of behavior meant to restrain and refine his aggression” (312). So too, the knights of the round table and the entire court of Camelot are bound to the same laws of courtesy. They cannot demand bloodshed, however, in the guise of a game, it can be desired, even more so, required, for the sake of entertainment. In time, Gawain accepts the challenge in the King’s stead, takes the ax and, “Brought it down deftly upon the bare neck” (420). This is the moment the court has fantasized about, the instant when courtesy is exchanged for violence. Given that the court has treated the unnamed knight with all the courtesy they possess, they are now allowed to ensure he dies nobly at the hands of one of their own, in the sight of all who dare to watch. “The blood gushed from the body, bright on the green/ Yet fell not the fellow, nor faltered a whit (429 - 430). Instead of completing their fantasies of violence however, the Green Knight survives…

Feelings of foreboding flooded his senses as the hair on the back of his neck stood out. Someone had listened to his conversation, and was residing in the shadows of his room. How had he not sensed this before? “Whoever is here, step forward. Do so quickly or face my wrath.” A tall, muscular man stepped forward. A knight, he surmised, wearing jade colored armor with a coat of arms on his chest plate that he did not recognize, figures of two fighting dragons adorned his gauntlets, and in his hands, he threateningly…

“Man has always moved along a road. It’s just what the road has looked like that’s changed over time” (Dan McNichol). Some would say that the legacy of the Roman Empire is viewed as the foundation of civilization, having influenced every aspect of modern society, from literature to mathematics. Even today, Roman law and foundation of government forms the basis of several modern democracies. The ancient Empire`s monuments still stand millennia later, awing and inspiring us. Rome 's extraordinary achievements and the unparalleled string of influential people shaped the whole of Europe and even the rest of the world. Philosophers blame the success of the Empire on many different factors, however, arguably the greatest advantage that the Romans had was, in fact, their roads. Also known as Viae, Roman soldiers created comprehensive stone roads that connected the whole continent. These vast highways spanned over 53,000 miles, and stretched all across Europe. The Roman Roads were the empire`s greatest achievements due to their benefits to the military, impact on the economy and trade, and the significant impact it had on the rise of Christianity and the transformation of European civilization.…

The exceptional craftsmanship of the many different types of swords in ancient Japan has made them prized and admired for centuries. Intricate detail, and the exotic and impressive quality of the swords have made them cherished works of art, as well as dependable weapons of war. The forging of the samurai sword was a long, detailed process. Priests would bless the process as the swords were exclusively meant to embody the characteristics of a samurai. The steel blade was intended to compliment the steel discipline of a samurai warrior. An essential part of the process included constructing a blade with a sharp piercing edge that could kill in a single swing, but still embodied a soft core and spine. This step required the craftsmen to create the soft core and fold outer layers of steel around it. They concealed the steel with clay and left only a thin layer over what was to become the deadly blade. The bottom, thinner part dried faster and became hard, while the top, denser half, cooled slower and softened. Throughout the forging process the swordsmith completely understood the sword’s role in life and death and therefore designed and casted a weapon worthy of…
