Creative Writing and Reading Comprehension Lesson
INTERNATIONAL INDIAN SCHOOL, JEDDAH
Dear Parent,
Our efforts in implementing CCE, keeping in mind the objectives, have been successful due to your cooperation. A student’s responsiveness to what is taught rather than just the capacity to retain it, has been the focus of our teaching & assessment. Let’s continue our reforms and make this system informal and stress free in the real sense and make learning a joyful experience.

Imagine your life flashing before you. What you had yesterday, you might not have today. Your loved ones you had a conversation with and were able to see days ago, might have been the last time you might ever talk to them and see them. All of this happens within minutes and without any warning. Put yourself in the position of someone who has to question if they will be able to see the sun rise the next morning; like myself.…

In previous decades the role of the teacher was a different one. Learning used to involve a teacher standing at the front of a classroom talking and expecting their students to soak up their knowledge like sponges. In today’s classroom, it is a recognised fact that all students need to learn in an environment of mutual respect…

Fighting temptation describes a battle that is as much spiritual as it is emotional or physical. To be tempted is not a sin. Everyone is tempted and at different levels. Even Jesus was tempted! Temptation happens when the opportunity is presented to do what we know is wrong, whether against God, ourselves, or others. Being tempted is not wrong - it's the decision to do wrong and the corresponding action that follows.…

We were given the assignment to create toy for a baby from things available in a home. I chose to create a toy for babies in the late infancy stage. My toys are “Noise shakers”. I took three water bottles, took off their wrappers, and in each one I added different things to create different sounds. In one bottle I put bells, in another bottle I put rice, and then in my 3rd bottle I added colorful craft beads. I filled all three bottles half way so there was room for the objects to move freely and create their different sounds. I then used something called Gorilla glue to attach the bottle caps. After that I covered the cap with two layers of colorful duct tape, so that it was extra secure, as well as adding color to the cap area. The age for this toy is 12 to 36 months. It falls in Piaget’s sensorimotor stage and the early part of the preoperational stage. Although this toy would not be for under 12 months or above 36 months. During the sensorimotor stage between 12 and 18 months “infants develop new behaviors that allow them to achieve their goals. Although the child still repeats actions over and over, now he does it with a planned variation to see what happened when I do this!” (P, 235/Levine). For example, the child will think, “when I shake this bottle I hear the sound”. This toy will stimulate the child’s senses; when the baby shakes it, it makes a sound. Also, these bottles have a soft but bumpy texture to the touch. This is important, because infants/young children take in information from their sense. This toy will encourage their growth of symbolic activity. When shaking these bottles, the young child will pretend they are different musical instruments; this is symbolic because they use one object to represent another. Piaget states that “During the Cognitive Development Theory stage 6 (18 months to 2 years)…

A major component of my philosophy of education in general is the need to build meaningful relationships with students. I am firm in my beliefs that students must feel a personal connection to their teachers. When mutual trust and respect between students and teachers flourishes, two important phenomena occur. First, teachers are able to allow students more freedom and independence in the learning process, without worrying that classroom management will be compromised by a particular activity. In addition, students develop a positive attitude toward the class, and feel assured that the learning that takes place on a daily basis will be understandable, fun and…

The daily scream therapy of my neighbour in the shower does not fail to act as an alarm clock every morning. This daily “alarm clock” was a good enough reason to not succumb into the pressure of calling the police. The rhythmic sound of everyone’s steps outside gave birth to the gravel, small as peas which moved beneath their feet and from it a faint dust rose, the perfume of the town. This perfume I had to get used to now, this perfume I will smell for the years to come. This foreign town was now my new home, away from all the sadness, unfulfilled relationships and the past, a town full of versatile people, some doctors, some painters, some chocolatiers and some farmers, all with big houses towering over them. A town still rich with bicycles and kids playing in the streets early in the morning, the streets filled with the aroma of bread this all felt very new to me, I was a city dweller, this made me feel great unease.…

Oh gosh a new school, a new year. I never liked this moving back and forth thing every time Dad gets a new job. There is no point in making friends, but this year will be different I thought, as I waited for the bus to arrive. I started to see the ugly mustard yellow bus approach me. As the door to the bus opened, the smell of damp, wet towels that have been sitting in a pile for weeks on end ,and overly sweet perfume punched me in the face. “Maby this year won't be so different after all,” I thought as the bus doors opened. Ridgewood High I thought a new beginning, but I ran to my first class, honors calculus. I was scared to approach anyone based on my looks. I have dark brown hair, dorky square glasses that are too big on me that I…

Through taking taking this course. I believed to have gained some valuable insight into how I think, and as to how exactly and clearly I write down my thoughts. Although I wouldn’t say that I gained much insight into exactly how I thin, however I did gain valuable insight into how exactly I put my thoughts into words. By taking this class, I have learned to transcribes my thoughts into words for a reader to see, allowing me to share my ideas with fellow peers rather than keeping my thoughts to myself and failing to share unique ideas. Although this process was relativity short, spanning only about 3-4 months, this process is evidence through the works I created in this class, from the literacy narrative to the E-portfolio in which is a living…

Reading and writing are important skills children need to succeed in school and in life. Reading is the ability to understand the meaning of language, and being able to communicate effectively with others through speaking, and writing. According to the Literacy and numeracy Secretariat, developing strong skills in literacy and numeracy is critical to a child’s success in early learning and beyond. Introducing reading and writing at an early age helps children develop a positive attitude towards reading and writing. Children are vulnerable, teachable, and impressible during early and middle childhood and it easier for them to learn reading and writing skills.…
