How would you feel if your parents sent you away to a disciplinary school without knowing the counselors there would beat you and harass you for almost everything you did, and the worst part is your parents didn't even know about it. I’m guessing you’d be very angry with your parents. if you would be angry with your parents congratulations because you have something in common with the main character Garrett.…

Island Lake, Manitoba is a northern reservation that has had many problems in the past and continue to do so today, and will in the future as well if the problems aren’t addressed soon. One major concern for the local RCMP detachment, located at 406 Main St, Stevenson Island, Manitoba R0B 2H0 was the harsh climate that was on average -45 degrees Celsius. This was a major concern because most of the community was without proper clothing for the winter, so the station decided to do something that would bring the community and the…
As soon as I feel the sun’s warmth on my face peeking over from behind the rim of Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, I am wide awake. I open my tent to see deep, vivid reds and pinks, along with bright oranges and yellows and the luminous sun in the middle of nature’s masterpiece. Although it is only around forty degrees this morning, I can feel my heart burning with the desire to explore the various park features. It is only my first day at Crater Lake, and I can already feel myself beginning to love this unique, wonderful place.…
The University of California, Merced’s Men’s Basketball team was so enthusiastic, as well as full of energy that humid Saturday morning as they prepared for an extraordinary adventure at Lake Yosemite. Each player greets Dr. Boggs, also thanking him for taking his time off from work in the health center to take them to the lake. Dr. Boggs, feeling warm-hearted and comforted, appreciated the well-mannered basketball players and cannot wait to get out in the lake. “I have brought my boat out here today so you guys can get the full lake experience, but I need to go over some safety procedures. I also need to explain to you all what exactly we will be doing today.”-Dr. Boggs.…
The ride from Cool, CA to Loon Lake was a very curvy and exceptionally scenic drive. Pine trees lined the road along with evidence of the misfortunate wildfires Northern California experienced this summer. The road took us right up to the lake and its surrounding land forms. There were many small island like land forms scattered all over the lake, a paradise for fishermen and kayaker's alike. There were huge slabs of granite all over the area which made it a little difficult to walk around the perimeter of the lake; and lead us to take the more scenic heavily wooded route. We stopped many times for Glenn to do what he does best and take professional pictures of the surrounding area and of the lake itself. While walking around we found multiple fire pits made of granite with benches and chairs made of the same. It was a system of hiker made camp sites all around the surrounding area of the lake and was amazing to see. One site in particular I liked and plan on using was a site set up right on the edge of a peninsula. There was a calming sound of the water lapping on the edge of the peninsula, and an amazing scenery of the mountains in the background. I wasn't surprised, however, at the perfect location of each camp site because they were built by backpackers and true nature…
I come from Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the most up and coming cities in America. My town is a beautiful, flourishing area with a lot to offer to a variety of people. With such diversification, we have not integrated our neighborhoods, schools, or the social scene nearly enough. Communities can become racially prevalent leading to separations in culture and heritage. I can see this in the high schools throughout the area during our football games or competitions which is depriving to everyone involved. Leaving people unaware of their surroundings creates a bubble of ignorance. Mallard creek provides so much culture as it is is zoned for so many areas, however, other schools are not provided the opportunity I am. As the severance continues,…
We were ready. Paddles in hand, canoe by our side, personal floatation devices, knee pads, and cameras. The afternoon sun shined on the lake, reflecting it across the calm waters. Crowds of people were enjoying their Sunday afternoon on North Beach at Devil’s Lake State Park. Young children stumbled on the moist sand and shallow waters as they tried to catch tadpoles with their small buckets. Soothing, a gentle breeze passed by as we walked towards the edge of Devil’s Lake. Marveling at the majestic mountain of cedars around the lake and smelling the damp sand, my dad, little sister, and I were all set to take on our first wilderness inquiry; canoeing across a lake. It was safe to say that we were in for an exciting adventure…
I am terrified of water. Not the crystal clear water in swimming pools or bathtubs, but the dark, murky water you find in ponds and swimming holes. Where you struggle to see even a few inches below the surface, and anything could be lurking just outside of your field of vision.…
Every year we go to the lake and we play on the water. We tube on the lake. We play on the water. We just like to mess around. I just got my boater license and I can now drive the boat by myself. But I am too young to pull a tube behind the boat. I will have to be about 18 before I can. I would like to one day pull one of my family members on a tube. Another thing that I like to doing on the water is slalom. Most people do not know what that is, but it is fun. You are rising on one skee. It takes a long time to learn how to slalom. I have fun and I think you can too. You have to have balance and I think you would like goggles because a lot of water gets in your…
Summer was dead, but autumn had not yet been born when the ibis came to the bleeding tree. It's strange that all this is so clear to me, now that time has had its way. But sometimes (like right now) I sit in the cool green parlor, and I remember Doodle.…
In my earlier years my family took me camping to a lake. My cousins came as well, which made it even more enjoyable. When we arrived at the campsite, I was in awe. It was something out of a Disney movie. There were towering pine trees shielding us from the sun’s rays. Wild plants and bushes surrounded our campsite, but not too far away was a clearing in the bushes where we can see the lake in all its glory. People were fishing, kayaking, swimming, and playing with their dogs.…
Gon's boots crushed the flaky snow littered around them, the pure white color brimming off the snow nearly blinded them as they're eyes were already so adjusted to the Ruin's crude lighting. Naturally, Gon was freezing in the new wintery environment with Whale Island's warm upbringing and naturally, Killua was indifferent to the sub-zero temperature.…
We were making our way through the midwest on a very cold morning when I saw an animal that looked like a dog, but seemed to be much smaller. As I tried to near it to get a better look it barked continuously until I was out of sight. I noticed that when the animals felt alarmed the whole village quickly steps into their holes. As well as noticing that I also noticed that they make a call when there is a predator near, and once that predator is gone they give out a second call. The small little animals live in burrows underground. They live in large communities,of what seemed to be hundreds. Their burrows are mostly in shortgrass areas. Their diet seemed to consist of grass, roots, and seeds. As I sat and continued to watch them…
