Creative Writing: Goodbye Doodle
“No! Doodle wake up!”
*I fell to the ground, my legs as weak as a flower. The feeling of the wet earth on my knees sent a sharp shiver up my spine
“Doodle, no! There’s so much we haven’t done! What about our house of leaves in Old Woman Swamp, or gathering dog tongues and selling them to our neighbors?”
The only thing that answered was the cruel, nefarious rain.
“Goodbye Doodle,” I staggered. “Thank you for teaching me how to love. I will never forget you.”
**My eyes became hammering waterfalls, and the last thing I saw before I closed my eyes were the vivid red stains peppering my baby brother’s shirt.

We reached The Dalles today. This is our last stop to Oregon city and this is going to be the most dangerous part of the whole trip. We have to take the Barlow Road around Mt. Hood. The oxen are getting too tired to walk anywhere and the other families with mules keep stopping and that makes us run behind on schedule. Many people are dying because they have worked too much and haven't gotten enough sleep. When we…

The thirty-first of August was a day Dipper both loved and hated. It meant he had survived another year without Bill Cypher rearing his triangular head but, that he was a year closer to that eventuality. It was summer during the roughest times, so we mostly camped and made our way south along the Niagara River. A lot of folks went and joined the picket lines at the border and got themselves arrested. Others got booted from their homes once the crews started working, and almost overnight, Hamilton and St. Catharines stopped being safe. The properties along the border had all been bought and vacated, so we passed through without much problem and made camp in a rich-looking building called the Oban Inn. We set out our gear and found cans in some of the cupboards, and we watched the crews at their work across the river. The construction noise made it tough to sleep, and one of the guys found a bottle of something…
