“What are you thinking so hard about?” Avery asked.
“I'm just a little nervous about school,” Hazel said.
“Hey, you’ll be ok don’t worry,” Avery said in a persuasive voice.
“Thanks,” Hazel said, smiling a fake smile, “It's just hard without mom and da-.” Before Hazel could finish her sentence she realized what she had said, “I'm sorry Avery."
“Hazel you’re fine, I understand,” she said with a warm kind smile.
“Thanks,” Hazel said while putting her plate in the dishwasher, “I'm going …show more content…
That morning, after Hazel ate her pancakes and sausage she washed up and grabbed her bag for school.
“By Avery, see you after school,” Hazel said nervously.
“By Hazel, remember Cloe (Avery's sister) is picking you up after school,” Avery mentioned.
Hazel opened the front door and took a deep breath. Today I will face my fear of going to a new school, she told herself. She stepped onto the stone pathway up to the curb and looked back at the bird feeders hanging in the tree, and the flowers scattered around the yard. The bus came to a halt, and she hoped as she got onto the bus that maybe today she wouldn’t come home bruised or crying.
As Hazel got on the bus her palms were sweaty, and she couldn’t breathe. She saw the kids whispering to each other and smirking. Hazel decided to just sit down at the next empty spot. So she walked down the aisle and finally stopped by a girl about 11, (the same age as Hazel).

Not saying he is mean. Omg, what if he’s a spy, and he’s after me and Avery. I have to run, we could build a bunker, and I could go to a private schoo-, but before Hazel could finish she saw a familiar face.
“Hazel!” the man cried.
“Dad!” Hazel replied, but then she was hit with a jolt of irritation, “Why are you here?”
“I came here to apologize,” he said sympathetically.
“And you care now?” she said getting mad, “You didn’t care when mom died,”
“I GOT OVERWHELMED, OK,” David said, exasperated,
“YOU GOT OVERWHELMED? HOW ABOUT YOUR 11-YEAR-OLD CHILD? YOU DON’T THINK I GOT OVERWHELMED, BECAUSE I DID. YOU DON’T THINK A PARENTAL SUPPORT WOULD HAVE BEEN HELPFUL AT THAT TIME?” Hazel accused,
“Hazel I’m sorry, but you have to trust me now,” he said, trying to relax. “Why should I?”
“Because, I love you Hazel, and we need each
