Throughout his high school years he played all different kinds of sports. He played football, baseball, basketball and ran track. He was one of the best in all those sports. When he played for his high school basketball team he was the leading scorer, and earned the name "Prime Time." After his four years playing for his high school team, it was time to start looking for a college. Since he wanted his mother to come see him play, his first pick of colleges was Florida State. He had great careers in all the sports he played in. Before his senior year at Florida State University (FSU), the Yankees took him, so he played professional baseball while in college. While he was in college he decided he would stay away from cursing. So every time he cursed he would pay someone 5 bucks. In 1989 he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round.…

The Washington Post news article, “Stephen Strasburg Shutdown” discussed the Washington nationals decision that manager mike Rizzo made prior to the season start to shut down the former number 1 pick, there ace Stephen Strasburg after he reached the 160 innings pitch mark no matter where they were in the postseason race, they were shutting him down for the remainder of the season. This created controversy around the sports world for the whole year of 2012 and is still being talked about on sports talk shows today. The nationals finished the regular season with the best record in the major leagues and a lot of that success was because of #37. He carried the pitching staff all year with a stellar 15-6 record with a 3.16 earned run average while leading the national league in strikeouts. Also he was the frontrunner for the CY young award which is the best pitcher in there respected leagues (American/National).…

Lou Gehrig, one of the greatest players of all time, struggled to make it in the big leagues. Although he did grow up in a normal family, the beginning of his career was rough. As he settled into the MLB, his career was one to remember. He really gave New York something to brag about. Towards the end of his career, an untimely sickness affected his life in the worst way possible.…
During this 10 year span I’ve been referring to, Bonds finished in the top 5 in MVP voting 7 out of 10 years, winning it 3 times. He won the Gold Glove for his position 8 times, the Silver Slugger 6 times and was elected to the MLB All-Star game 8…

Roberto Clemente will never be forgotten as a person, player, father, husband, and brother. He has left a legacy that could never be duplicated. Many people held racist views towards him as a colored player, the most influential in baseball history, because he broke barriers for Latin American players, he helped on an off the field, and he was a MVP caliber player for 12 years. Roberto Clemente is the best Latino player to ever step on the diamond. He will forever be loved and will never be…
When Brooklyn Dodgers first baseman Jackie Robinson stepped onto Ebbets Field in the first inning of a game against the Boston Braves on April 15th, 1947, he became the first Black player in the Major Leagues since 1884, when catcher Moses Walker played in 42 games for the Toledo Blue Stockings (Light 119). For the next 60 years, an unwritten rule separated the two races, but Robinson changed all of that. While he had a relatively uneventful day on the field, going 0-3,the 28 year old Jackie scored the deciding run in a 5-3 victory (Dunham). More importantly, however, Robinson’s appearance represented an impending permanent change in the nation’s pastime that would forever shape the forces of modern baseball. By becoming the first Black to play modernized baseball, Robinson opened the door for many other achievements and firsts by African Americans. This impact can still be seen today, as Robinson’s arrival set the precedence for the shift from baseball being an all white sport to a sport of all ethnic backgrounds by opening up racial barriers. It can also be said that the way that Jackie’s events unfolded helped to spearhead the Civil Rights movement by bringing to light the important issues that faced the Blacks, especially with his calm reaction to the daily death threats that he and his family received. Robinson starting the full integration of baseball also led to an era of dominance by the National League, winning a majority of the All Star games from 1950 to 1982. These dominant National League teams were led mostly by African American players, something that the American League was not as quick to pick up on. The overall impact of Jackie Robinson was widespread, as his effect on baseball is still seen today, with his number 42 jersey being retired by all of baseball in 1997 as a lasting tribute to the profound effect he had on modern baseball (Light 781).…

Unless you are a Yankee's Fan, what you likely know about A-Rod, Alex Rodriguez, is that he hits a lot of home runs, but that his records are under scrutiny since he was using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) while he was hitting them. As a result, he had to sit out an entire baseball season and forfeit millions of dollars in salary and millions more in record bonuses including a $6 million bonus for tying Willie Mays career 660 home run mark.…
In what I would call baseball's modern era many of the key roles are now played by a single person rather than a different person on any given day. Most pitchers are now thankful to last solid six innings, players hardly make it an average of five years, and those past their prime are downgraded to the designated hitter. No wonder the Babe Ruth era continues to fascinate.…
In the state of Kansas there are 29 petrographic, and 1 pictographic sites. These sites have seen the movement and occupation of at least 10 tribal identities, not including Paleo-Indian, and Archaic traditions (O’Neill 1980, 19). As represented on the map of rock art sites, the majority of the works can be found in north central Kansas in the Smoky Hills region.…
Rock art documentation by using multispectral is becoming popular in the cultural heritage domain. Multispectral is a camera with multi-lenses and sensors, which can take pictures of an object by multi-wavelength at the same scene. Usually, the advantage of using multispectral is it can detect an invisible object because it equipped with Near Infra-red (NIR) band, which is useful in reflecting the invisible spectrum. However, in the application of rock art documentation, multispectral is only focused on radiometric analysis, although multispectral images principally can be used for generation of orthophoto and digital surface model. Problems of processing multispectral photos by using close-range photogrammetry (CRP) involves band-to-band registration for alignment, because of the images have a different view angle, and calibration of the images becomes complicated.…
