The play Antigone is a story, where the tragic hero Creon is forced to make important decisions because Antigone covered her brother’s body with dust. It was a bad idea on the part of Antigone because she broke a law and was punished for it. Also because Antigone’s actions led to the deaths of three innocent people. Sophocles conveys the conflict to the reader to whether it was right or wrong for Antigone to cover her brother’s body.
The fact that it was a law for Antigone not to cover the body and she did it anyway and was punished greatly for it is a reason why she made a bad decision. When Creon says, “This girl is guilty of double insolence. Breaking given laws and boasting of it… boasting of barefaced anarchy!” (2. 80-81, 92) This shows her complete disrespect for the law. This upsets Creon which causes him to show no mercy and give Antigone the full punishment. Someone might say she was doing a noble act for her brother, in which she did, but she also helped the enemy and was punished her sister who was accused with her of the same crime. “Arrest …show more content…
This selfish and honorable action was good in the fact that it honored her fallen brother but it in result killed three others eliminating Creon’s entire family. Someone might think though that it was suicide because of love and that it was Creon’s fault for driving Antigone to the point of killing herself. But it wasn’t his fault for keeping order in his kingdom. It is Antigone’s fault for selfishly killing herself and covering the body. Finally, Antigone also took away Creon’s family from him. It is understandable that she would cover her brother’s body, but I don’t think that she was right to kill herself for Creon’s bad decision and cause a sequence of bad
