Introduction: 
Attention getter: Every year in the U.S., an average of more than 100,000 people are shot, according to The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Every day in the U.S., an average of 289 people are shot. Eighty-six of them die: 30 are murdered, 53 kill themselves, two die accidentally, and one is shot in a police intervention, the Brady Campaign reports. (NBCNews.com)
There are at least 2,225 child offenders serving life without parole sentences in U.S prisons for crimes committed before they were age 18. (Human rights watch.org)
Should children who commit violent crimes be tried as adults?
Where I am from, it is becoming very violent (Rochester) there are a lot of kids killing kids just because. A young man was shot and killed December 3, 2013 by other kids, and now his child is left without a father because of the violence. So that is why I picked my topic and I’m going to cover information through explaining my 3 main points witch are, what are violent crimes, why children under 18 should get tried as an adult and what the consequences say about committing violent crimes.

Main Point One: what are violent crimes?
A. definition of a violent crime-In the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Violent crimes are defined in the UCR Program as those offenses which involve force or threat of force. (www2.fbi.gov) 1. Just 4 years ago in 2009, an estimated 1,318,398 violent crimes occurred nationwide 2. Aggravated assaults accounted for the highest number of violent crimes reported to law enforcement at 61.2 percent. Robbery comprised 31.0 percent of violent crimes, forcible rape accounted for 6.7 percent, and murder accounted for 1.2 percent of estimated violent crimes in 2009.
These are just some statistics about violent crimes now I’m going to talk about why children should get tried as adults.
Main Point Two: Why children should get tried as adults
A. 66% of people Say yes about children getting tried as an adult (www.debate.org) 1. Generations are getting worse and worse, the younger generations have no type of sense and priorities are not in order. Children under 18 know exactly what they are doing and if they do something like murder or robbery they should get what they deserve incarceration. We wouldn’t be lenient if a grown man or woman kill a family or robbed a bank so the same goes for children. The media makes examples out of the adults who do wrong, so hopefully kids won’t end up there. Everybody makes choices, and an underdeveloped brain is no excuse. 2. A total of 176 under 16-year-olds were found guilty of burglary, 214 convicted for criminal damage and nine for assaulting a police officer 2008
In the past three years, 114 primary school-age children have been convicted of violence against the person. (www.telegraph.co.uk) Lastly I am going to talk about the consequences of violent crimes.

I. On an ending note I believe children should be tried as adults, we don’t need killings, robberies, or rapes in society. Bottom line is if you’re wrong you’re wrong. II. My main points consist of 1) What are violent crimes 2) why children should get tried as adults 3) consequences of violent crimes. And now that you are a little more educated on the issue I’m sure you would agree with me children who commit violent crimes should be tried as adults. Just picture if a family member of yours or someone very important in your life was harmed, you would want justice served to the person who caused danger.
