Now a day in this world cyber crime is on the rise. Everywhere you look everyone uses a computer for messaging, banking, keeping in contact with families, gaming, and many other things. Cyber crime is presenting big problems for criminologists nowadays, 1.) it is rapidly evolving, new things being built every day. 2.) It is difficult to detect through law enforcement channels, 3.) planning or coordinating its control demands technical skills that match those of the perpetrators.
There are many types of cyber crime for example, computer fraud, pornography and prostitution, illegal copyright infringement, internet security fraud, identity theft, cyber vandalism, cyber stalking, cyber bullying, and cyber terrorism. Many of these are on the rise and only growing.
The two growing the most right now are cyber bullying and identity theft. In order to help slow down and or stop identity theft there are more firewalls being built more passwords and secret questions put in place of answers for logging in. Hackers are having to move to different proxys to hide what is being done and to try and get more information. Cyber bullying is on a rise with elementary- college student kids. It has a broad spectrum but tons of children and adults do it. Many people are using the webpage MySpace, Facebook, or tweet to attack and be a bully. The first case of cyber bullying happened back on may 15, 2008 where a neighbor made a fake profile of a boy and acted like he liked a girl. She in turn turned around around and hurt the girl and drove the girl to commit suicide. She was sentenced as guilty, but the judge overturned the judgment and said she was not guilty. This sparked an uproar and showed the law there needed to be rules for this.
There are now laws to contribute to all of these cyber crimes, they will not stop however if we can make the punishment a little more extreme maybe we will see numbers decrease in these crimes. I believe we have too much free reign and
