U.S Government Essay New York City is one of the most populated cities in America. It has so many people, so many things to do. However, there are some problems that New York faces. A lot of these issues haven’t been fixed or even looked at. The mayor should be going over some of this issues and getting them fixed. Two problems that New York City faces are crime rates and financial problems. A huge problem that New York City has is the rate of crime. It has increased by a lot, the number of annual crimes right now is 449,745. There have been a huge number of murders, rapes, and robberies in many neighborhoods. There has been a 400 percent increase in murders in Tony Williamsburg and a 400 percent increase in rapes in Sheepshead Bay and a 250 percent increase in killings in Washington Heights. Every week there is a new article in the news about a crime happening. The mayor should be very concerned and should be taking action to avoid crime rates increasing even further. Something that the mayor should be doing is hiring more police officers that are trained well to secure the areas that have shown an increase in crime. This will help slow the crime down if there are officers patrolling everywhere. Another problem that New York City has is that many colleges and universities are facing financial problems. A lot of colleges have closed down, merged or been bought by for-profit colleges in recent years. Only 500 of the 4,000 and more colleges and universities in the United States have stable finances. A lot of the colleges need their campuses rebuilt, their buildings fixed, new faculty to replace the retired ones, and more classrooms for the students to be able to attend. This is a big problem because less students are enrolling in colleges and these colleges have no money. They are in a serious financial problem. The mayor should do something about this, these
