Critical Analysis
Critical Analysis Paper
Product: 1 1200-1500 word paper
Due: May 2nd, 2013
Assignment: For this paper, you will be asked to apply the analytical tools you have acquired in this class to a play script is not assigned reading for the class. The script can be from any period, but must be full-length and approved by me. All plays must be submitted before the first paragraph is due on April 9th. For this paper you will address a specific issue within the play (i.e. "feminism in Antigone," "the American dream in Death of a Salesman," or "Segismundo as embodiment of the id in Life is a Dream"). This paper will require you to make connections outside of the script, so use of outside sources is expected.
Tips:
• Pick a play you are interested in, you will be spending some time with it.
• JSTOR and Project Muse are two excellent databases that you have access to through the library. They both have articles from many journals that may be useful.
• If you are unsure about how to cite something, you have access to the Chicago Manual of Style through the library.
• Outside resources can be about the play or about the issue you are discussing (or both).
• If you are borrowing an idea from an outside source cite it. Failure to do so constitutes plagiarism
• Of you are having trouble saying everything you want to say in 1500 words, narrow your topic. (i.e. narrow "Feminism in Antigone" to "Feminist Concepts of Sisterhood in Antigone")
• Depth over breadth. Detailed analysis of a very narrow topic is better than shallower analysis of a wider topic.
• If you find yourself struggling with any aspect of this paper (including play selection), please come talk to me during office hours or by appointment.

When Best Buy first opened it was an event that an electronics store could hold such a variety of products, have knowledgeable employees, and offer competitive prices at the same time. Although in 2012 it was reported that revenues for Best Buy increased, the company still fell victim to the problems of having a decrease in net income and operating cash flow. “The company reported revenues of (U.S. Dollars) USD 50,705.00 million during the fiscal year ended March 2012, an increase of 1.93% over 2011. The operating profit of the company was USD 1,085.00 million during the fiscal year 2012, a decrease of 54.30% from 2011. The net loss of the company was USD 1,231.00 million during the fiscal year 2012, as against a net profit of USD 1,277.00 million during 2011 (Strategic Analysis 1).” It is obvious by these numbers that Best Buy, a company that has been historically successful, has been running into some recent troubles. In this report I will identify all of the potential reasons for Best Buy’s recent poor performance, as well as offer my opinion for the primary reasons for Best Buy’s recent sub-par performance.…

Author, Harriet Davids, of “The Extended School Day” believes all elementary schools should adopt an extended school day policy. Davids main ideas focus on the safety of the children, whether it be in the care of a nanny or home alone, safety is the number one priority. Davids not only states that an extended school day will be beneficial to the parents and the students, but also the teachers and staff involved in the after school programs. In an affective essay there are seven essential elements that must be followed to skillfully create a forceful essay. Unfortunately, Davids lacks many of these elements in the entitled essay, “The Extended School Day”.…

Erickson describes play as being “the infantile form of human ability to deal with experience by creating model situations and to master reality by experimentation and planning” Erickson (1963) which suggests that play is a vital part of a persons development from child to adulthood. Play is thought to have certain characteristics these are explained by Garvey a being “essentially enjoyable, it is an activity associated with positive effect, an activity done for its own sake rewarding itself and not dependant on extrinsic motivation or achievement of goals outside of play. Spontaneous and voluntary, chosen and generated by the player and not outside authority. It requires active involvement on behalf of the player it is contrasted with ‘non-play’ by being set aside form real life. It is not intended literally and is not meant to be taken at face value.” Garvey (1977). They were described again more simply as “being a state of flow, blissful involvement in what you are doing, being carried away by the activity but simultaneously participating fully in it and not being out f control.” Csksentmihalyi (1979)…
