In the future regional economy
Abstract
Credit unions are unique cooperative financial institutions the can provide banking facilities to the financially excluded. Most recently, in the UK sector has experienced strong growth over the past two decades. Also, the sophistication of the movements within different area linked to a growing awareness.
This paper seeks to explore the complex understanding of credit union and analysis the role of local credit unions in the future regional economy. The argument focuses on four theoretical frameworks: the first concerns the concept of credit union, highlighting their distinctive characteristics and charting its historical development; whilst the second focuses on favorable factors which lead the successful development of unions; thirdly, presents an overview of financial inclusion agenda in the UK; then, discusses the future of local credit union. The central intent is to grasp the core characteristic of credit union and critical assess its factions in regional economic development. It illustrates disparities when regional credit unions are compared in the second part. It is also argues that disparities when policies are formulated by different legislative bodies in the third part. The paper concludes by considering the current situation to give the commitment about the credit union development.
Nature of credit union
Credit unions are nonprofit, cooperative institutions designed to pool the savings of their members and to lend to other members.(William &Ivan, 1982) Credit unions were established by local groups of volunteers in towns and within in areas with the target of creating locally accessible, co-operative financial services, particularly for people who found it difficult to look for financial support.
