Spongebob Squarepants is an American animated television series created by animator and marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg. It was released by the TV show network, Nickelodeon and is its highest rated show. The series centers on the adventures of the title character and his many friends like Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Squidward Tentacles and Eugene Krabs in the underwater city of Bikini Botom. Since it’s first airing last May 1, 1999, the show Spongebob Squarepants has definitely went a long way, as it is now a well known and a highly influential cartoon series for children. The series has been a success in captivating the hearts of many. But what is the secret to the show’s success? It is no question that one does not simply think of a show like Spongebob Squarepants. To prove this, who would just come up with the idea of having a yellow sponge that can cook burgers underwater so well as the main character? To top that off, that yellow sponge has a pink starfish that lives underneath a stone as his best friend and a clarinet-playing squid as his neighbor. One’s attention would be easily caught with such unique and quirky characters. Of course, being a cartoon series falling under the category of comedy, Spongebob Squarepants can be hailed for its humor. It is probably one of the main charms of the show. Personally, as a child, I recall enjoying the jokes cracked in the show. And even now as a teenager, I still cannot help but laugh whenever I’d hear the funny conversations between Patrick and Spongebob. Kids are the main targets as audience of the show. This probably explains why Spongebob Squarepants and each of its characters played such a vital role in my childhood. I think that the show also has to take credit for doing a good job in keeping their show safe for its main audience. They do not encourage profanity and there is only mild violence within each episode. I can say that the show is a good watch for kids and I would recommend
