Critical Situation Analysis: Stake and Stakeholders In every story there is something that is at stake. Whether it be a relationship, a job opportunity, or something as simple as a feeling, there is always a purpose to the actions taken by characters. By analyzing the article Sports Saves the World by Alexander Wolf and by researching the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation’s website, I have found a common ground of helping others in order to make the world a better place. The two readings speak of a similar topic; that of giving. Both readings tell of stakeholder’s, the charities and beneficiaries involved within a cause, and show that what is at stake is the wellbeing of those that require help. While charities …show more content…
An example of this is in the Middle East in the cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and the West Bank. An organization named Peace Players International was established by Sean and Brendan Tuohey in order to teach children of the region the game of basketball, but more importantly to bring children of battling religious beliefs and customs together through team sports. The region is known for religious conflict which made it very difficult for the founders to bring Israeli Arabs and Jews together with the Palestinians of the West Bank. The social norms in place are very rigid and rarely, if ever, blended peacefully. The goal of charity is quite noble and gives a sense of a better day to the stakeholders receiving help, but the promises of charitable organizations can prove to be less fruitful than originally intended. Dikembe Mutombo is a former player in the National Basketball Association who is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A dream of his was to find a way to help his fellow country-men, seeing as the country is very poor. This dream came to fruition when in 2001 work began on the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center (DMF.org). The establishment of this hospital greatly benefited the entire country and established a place for the ill or injured to finally receive adequate health care. The hospital as a whole is a great success and has helped many since its opening, but it does not come without its faults. The citizens of the country stand to benefit from the newly available health care but there are still many aspects of the hospital which may stand to damage the hope for the future of the citizens of the DRC. The hospital itself has received a score of 42.57 out of 70 by charitynavigator.org because of the many faults that are still prevalent in its design. The hospital does not have a “Whistleblower Policy”, which means that when malpractice occurs it is not reported. They also do not have a records retention and destruction policy which
