Reducing poverty is not just an economical issue that we can just fix overnight. There are many ways we can begin the process of reducing the poverty level. In 2013, 45.3 million people (14.5%) were in poverty (DeNavas-Walt, C. & B.D. Proctor 2014) also in 2013, the overall poverty rate according to the supplemental Poverty Measure is 15.5 percent, as compared with the Official poverty rate of 14.5 percent. (The research Supplemental Poverty Measure: 2012 (2012) U.S. Census Bureau) A few ways to begin reducing poverty is by everyone pulling together to help those in need. By turning away from the issue is not helping anyone. We must come up with community projects and outreach programs as well as collaborate with
those who are living in poverty to get others to help as well as making donations. Poverty will never be completely eradicated but we have to start somewhere. In my above writing I made sure I identified the issue, researched the problem, so I’d know more about it. I asked myself questions like what would I want to see done and how I thought poverty could be reduced as well as what is the underlying cause of poverty. I put myself in those living in poverty, it helped me come up with a solution.
I tried to use every part of the critical thinking process in order to come up with the best possible solution. Critical thinking can be used in all aspects of your life, whether it be personal or professional. Critical thinking helps you get pass the limited thinking and allows you to dig deeper to look beyond just what you see or what you think you may know. Critical thinking at work could lead to better opportunities. Steps that I would take to ensure that I continue to use critical thinking in the future is by not letting my emotions control me, I intend to think about what’s in front of me and think deeper. Asking questions also helps with critical thinking as well. Critical thinking is a wonderful skill to have. It enables you to think clearly and rationally, and is not only valuable in academics and writing but in other aspects of life as well.
