A QUALITATIVE CRITIQUE ON TOBACCO USE
Tobacco smoking is a leading health issues in the current world. Smoking is the major cause of many lung diseases like lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis and asthma. People who smoke are high risk for fatal conditions like stroke and coronary artery disease. Smoking also leads to impotency, congenital abnormalities, preterm or still birth. Nurses getting too much time to contact with patients, so they can play a vital role in educating them to prevent smoking. Public need to be educated on the consequences of smoking and how to quit smoking. By using a qualitative method this article shows that how the nurse can be a part in the control of tobacco use and in the oncoming research projects for health policies. These studies portrait a clear picture how the smoking can influence an individual’s personal and social life, also emphasize the role of nurses in the prevention of tobacco use.
The author developed a comprehensive review of literature for readers which include prevention and control of smoking. Tobacco has been a subject for many researches since last decades. This article mainly focused on the three areas in nursing related to smoking and its consequence. The areas are 1.smoking identity, which pointed the areas in which how smoking can influence one person’s personal and social life. 2. Social context, which shows how family and friends can involve in the process of smoking cessation, 3.the nurse involvement in tobacco, which reveal the problems in work place for nurses related to smoking prevention.
Qualitative descriptive method was used in this study. The study used different type of sampling and data collection, the author was able to get comprehensive opinion from those who participate. Throughout the study the focus was smoking cessation, prevention and
