A selection of foods have been genetically modified to be resistant to the contact of insects and some other pests. Genetically modified crops that are a resistant to insects primarily consist of cotton and maize. Having plants be insect …show more content…
Cross pollination is where the pollen from one plant contaminates another plant with its pollen. In the process of growing the action to reduce the risk of cross contamination. Mixing non-GM crops with GM crops serious issue causing major economic problems that being loss of sales and exports. Three organic farmers indicated GM in their crops and the contaminated produce was rejected by half from their potential buys leaving a loss of 4,500 of their stock each rejection.
According to the university of Iowa, GM foods have features in them that makes our bodies some what immune to disease or virus. The worry about this is that the bacteria living in our gut will pick up an antibiotic resistant from a GM crop. In some GM crops there are antibiotic qualities, this boosting the immune system, but, when they actually are consumed the effectiveness of the antibiotic becomes less which isn't the case in actual antibiotics
I think research about genetical modification of foods should be continued, im just shocked how science has evolved so much to the point where we are able to modify foods to grow with more nutrition value. I think if Vitamin A is able to be put in rice to help over 250 million children that without vitamin A other wise will go blind is something worth continuing to better …show more content…
Better research will encourage to create more foods that are being modified, modification in foods people always eat that are not necessarily healthy but to add the extra nutritional value that is needed. Currently when a food has been genetically modified it doesn't have to be labeled as such. Consumers argue that the foods they purchase from supermarkets should be labeled if genetically modified because of the risks of Gm in foods. Consumers of GM foods may be subjected to the following risks infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system. Allergic reactions in people happens when a harmless protein enters the body and sparks an immune response. Although no allergic reactions have been confirmed their is still studies that have shown it to be possible. If research is continued I believe labeling should be
