Guest speaker Maria Fernanda spoke on the topic of market research. Cross-
Laminated Timber or CLT was the topic for much of the lecture. CLT use is widespread in Europe, but has yet to break through in the United States. Market research and data collection is required to determine potential success in US markets. Secondary data is data that already exists. Primary data is created by research. In creating primary data, researchers look to find information on a sample group. A sample is a segment of the population, used to represent the entire group. It is unrealistic to address the entire population because of the amount of time and resources that would be required.
Research can be done using a number of methods, including, but not limited to, questionnaires or interviews. The general process for data collection is sample, implement, analyze and report. !

The market analysis information that Maria Fernanda gave us in her lecture,
could be applied to our group project. Our product is a roll out garden. With market analysis we could find the public perception of the product, what customers think of competitors, and what customers want. This type of information is critical when planning a marketing strategy. We need to know what our potential customers think are the benefits, drawbacks, and barriers of using our product. This knowledge allows us highlight our strength and work away from our perceived weaknesses. This also allows us to include information such as potential profits, market shares, and room for growth in a business proposal.
