CrossFit workouts are programs that focus on strengthening and conditioning. This type of workout method is used widely in gyms across the world, as well as in training programs for firefighters, law enforcement, and military organizations. This system was founded in 1995 by former high school gymnast Greg Glassman.…
Great post! A handful of my friends from back home enrolled in crossfit in their local gym and from the looks of it they are rapidly exceeding their strength and energy. I've always found crossfit to be a little to intimidating for me, leaving me to just admire to those who have actually dedicated their time and money. How many times a week do you do crossfit? Is there a goal you are trying to achieve while doing this type of activity? Take care Skyler and once again great…
Having not a single clue what CrossFit was, I decided to do a quick Google search. Immediately, the massive weight reps and nonstop movement intimidated me. It reminded me of “Jump Stretch,” a fitness program my sister engaged in when she was playing high school…
Basketball and baseball are the greatest things to ever happen to me. There is not one day where I do not enjoy shooting hoops or hitting home runs. People always say that I should be playing baseball because of how fit and athletic I am, so I tried it out, and it turned out I was pretty good. For basketball it was a different story. People have said that I was way too short, but my first game I scored about twenty points and everyone kept quiet.…
Sports always allowed myself to push my limits, while learning new physical and emotional skills.…
Baseball comes to mind first because I have been playing baseball all my life. The road here started my senior year when spring baseball was picking up. I was somewhat of a talented athlete that was looking to play at the next level. I took the first step by contacting, Coach Knight of the baseball team. After coming into contact with him, he started to recruit me and my best friend name to come play here at Ecclesia College (EC). After the recruiting process was over Coach Knight…
When I first walked into the gym, I noticed it smelled like chalk, sweat and metal bars. Ah, the life of a crossfit gym. I always thought that I had wanted to try to start crossfit but when I finally walked into the gym I was certain. I didn't start that day because I was there to babysit but the next day i was 100% certain i was going to. So the next day Anna came and got me and we were on our way. When we got there it was so exhilarating and i just wanted to start! So we started out rowing and running…
The National Athletic Trainers Association defines a certified athletic trainer as, “An athletic trainer that encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions.” According to Becoming an Athletic Trainer, “Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to give preventive services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.” An Athletic Trainer plays a significant role in getting athletes back to a confident mental mind-set and elite performance.…
I have been involved in athletics for as long as I can remember I have always had a passion and true talent for the participation in certain athletics and one sport I truly prospered in was football. I have been playing football since I was 6 and that’s when the flag season started and ever since then I’ve loved it. I remember first watching the super bowl and just being in love.…
I moved back to Canada at Grade 10 and joined the Richmond Chuckers Gold AA team. Although we were not the best team, we had a solid, all round roster. I was playing right field and batting bottom of the order. I contributed to the title our team won by my great defence and my occasional hit. The trophy was important for me because it is the only championship I won. Although I am not anywhere close to being a MLB player, my love for baseball eventually lead to the economics of baseball. That is one of the reason why I am applying to Beedie School of…
Growing up, I have always struggled in school, the work and the classes never interested me. I never had the freedom I wanted to broaden my abilities. I’m the student who always told herself, “just 180 days to go, just suck it up and get it over with”, and currently, that is what I am doing. But now, as a senior in high school, I finally get the freedom I have been longing for to do and achieve what I want with my life. The first step, picking a school that’s going to be right for me, a school that’s going to give me the tools I need to be the best I can be, and now after typing that, it sounds really cliché, but it’s true. The Fashion Institute of Technology is my key to the life I want. While it can offer me with possibly the best experience of my life, I can offer it an open mind to anything and everything.…
While it can be done, primarily with people who are new to training, they really aren't meant to happen at the same time. Losing fat is the result of a caloric deficit. Gaining muscle requires a caloric surplus. You can't have a deficit and a surplus at the same time.…
The greatest feeling on earth is the euphoric moment of winning your first weightlifting meet. The hours of preparation, the planning, taking the heaviest weight you could possibly lift and putting it over your head on a stage under the lights as the crowd goes insane over this monumental feat of strength is unrivaled by anything else. Comprised of six opportunities to score points over the course of two styles of lifts, the difference of winning and losing can come down to lifting as little as a kilo more of even weighing in at just one gram less than your opponent. The complicated workings of a weightlifting meet must be thoroughly understood if you wish to win a weightlifting meet.…
“Formosa” ― a beautiful island named by its Portuguese founders, this is Taiwan, the country where I came from. Taiwan has a long rich culture and art history as a Dutch and Japanese colony and also has Native Taiwanese. It caused me to have diverse cultural and art background and decide to become a designer. To me, art is like a bridge. It communicates with people, no matter their gender, race, or age. People learn and inspire by it.…
I know, when I say sports, I leave a lot to the open end. But I literally mean anything that has a necessity to be athletically inclined; I already had the upper hand. Other than being naturally good, I had passion for the game. Passion that I define by an untamable light that refuses to be shaded. My life undoubtedly revolved around the subject.…
