Many times in conversation, one person is dominant and emotions and viewpoints are not able to be expressed openly. Sometimes, one person feels like they are not allowed to speak. This is where creating safety comes into play. Creating safety allows both parties to feel secure and able to project their opinions for others to hear. In my life, creating safety is a technique used in my family everyday. In fact, just the other day, my mom used this process on me. There was a hockey game on the the tv that I had been waiting all day to watch, so naturally, when it came on, I started to watch it. My mom came into the room sometime later and asked why I was not studying form my exams that were the next day. I told her I did not need to study and that I would be fine. Tensions were rising, so my mom used creating safety on me to help the conversation in a healthier. She stepped out of the conversation, and started talking about how she saw potential in me to achieve higher scores if I put more time and effort into my studies. She encouraged me and told me she thought I could earn valuable scholarship money towards college if I decided to put forth that effort. I told her I agreed with her and we then stepped back into the conversation. The conversation became calmer and more logical. I saw her points and I decided with her help that it was best to miss the rest of the
