The Kite Runner
In the novel ‘The Kite Runner’, written by Khaled Hosseini, the themes of cruel and kind behaviour helped me with the understanding of the ideas in the text. Cruel behaviour such as when Assef bullies and rapes Hassan, when Amir frames Hassan for something he did not do, and kind behaviour like when Amir travels back to Afghanistan to seek out Sorab and save him from the abuse of Assef.

Hassan had took the blame for it because of how loyal he is to Amir, and Amir does not tell the truth behind the lies and lets Hassan and Ali leave. This showed how selfish Amir can be, how he will do anything to get rid of the guilt consuming him, even if that meant making Hassan leave, and lying about stealing the money. “I lifted Hassan's mattress and planted my new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under it. I waited another thirty minutes. Then I knocked on Baba's door and told what I hoped would be the last in a long line of shameful lies.” This part of the novel showed that Amir wanted to stop all the lies, that this lie would have been his last one, he had hoped. This also demonstrated the fact that Amir was willing to lie again just so he would not have to tell anyone that he knew Hassan was raped by Assef, so he would not have to face the guilt of knowing about the rape anymore, he would not have to torment himself with the truth every
