Carmen immediately realized why the elderly man was so upset. She wanted to give the globe back to him, but she could not find the poor man anywhere. Luckily, Carmen's brother had come to the airport with them. Carmen asked him to hold onto the globe, and she would figure out what to do with it after her trip.

After a lovely weekend with her boyfriend, Carmen immediately started to look for the globe's owners. She created a Facebook post with photos of the snow globe and the story about what happened. Immediately, the post went viral. Within just a week, it had received more than 40,000 shares and likes.

One morning, Carmen went online to check the post. As she scrolled through the comments, she noticed an advertisement for an online casino. It offered 120 free spins for a small deposit. In Tim O’Brien’s story, The Things They Carried, the way the men idolize their possessions is directly related to the setting of the story. Lieutenant Cross holds himself responsible for the loss of one of his men and has his mind set to reform his team and not let the idea of a woman control his thought any longer. It is important to understand how much the setting plays a role in their daily lives. “The Things They Carried” is a story about what is most important to a soldier, practical and emotional. Jimmy Cross tells how pictures, letters, bibles, and journals were just as important as guns, medical supplies, and radio contact. A soldier couldn’t do what he does without some ties to real life, beyond the war. As Jimmy Cross said, “It wasn’t cruelty, just stage presence. They were actors and the war came at them in 3-D.” The letters and pictures helped them stay grounded, a hope for a life outside of the war.…

During Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried and the documentary “Dear America: Letters Home to Vietnam”, I experienced many different emotions that were brought on by the situations presented. From the very beginning of the novel where O’Brien listed off the things they carried, I felt uneasy. What started off as a simple list of tangible items they literally carried, morphed into emotional or mental baggage that weighed each of the men down in different ways. “They carried all the emotional baggage of men who…

Paranormal activity has been a hot topic worldwide for decades. Horror movies, novels, and television shows have been based on myths, legends, and even stories that are claimed to be true. Since many choose to watch or read about ghosts, there is debate over the authenticity of the stories and the existence of apparitions altogether. Author Joe Nickell, a stage magician, private investigator, and journalist argues that his experience with apparitions proves that paranormal accounts are entirely false, specifically involving notoriously haunted hotels, inns, and other lodgings. He offers several premises to debunk the ghostly accounts of people worldwide, using quotes and analysis from a variety of researchers and also his own personal encounters.…

Tim O’ Brien’s story “The Things They Carried” received very positive reviews from critics. The review that stood out to me the most was by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Powells Books. I also gathered a few other analyses that have similar reactions but different interpretations. A review by John Greenya in the book reviews section of The Washington Times. I also found two independent reviews intriguing. One by Julie Moore, submitted on Yahoo Voices, and the other by Amanda on the website Good Reads. Being able to see the different viewpoints and interpretations on this story, truly shows that this author puts together a wonderful story, but ensures that there is plenty of room…
