As an IT Administrator, I have been tasked with designing the technical strategy for the merger of your company with another company. I have developed a list of questions that you will need to answer effectively so that I may design a solution for allowing seamless sharing of information and resources between the two companies.
1. How many users are we expecting to have?
(Answer) I would say that the amount of users we have is about 150 and we will have plenty of room to expand in case we ever need to expand up to another 200 Users if we need to.
2. How many different departments will we be having?
(Answer) We will only have 5 departments (IT, HR, Distribution, Maintenance, and Staff).
3. Which departments will need what permissions as far as access to computers, printers, and scanners?
(Answer) As far as what permissions each department will have, I propose to have a meeting with all department heads and map out a plan to benefit everyone.
4. Will everyone be at one site or will we have multiple buildings?
(Answer) Since we are a mail order distribution service named Speedy Pete’s. We will only have one site for our infrastructure. The reason being is because we only have one office/warehouse building that everyone works out of.
5. What is our budget for designing the new AD DS infrastructure?
(Answer) Our budget for creating this new infrastructure is going to be roughly $30,000 to buy all the servers and switches needed including the computers to hold the AD and DS.
6. Should we buy physical servers for each location?
(Answer) We should buy physical servers as they are more efficient than virtual servers are from our point of view.
7. Should we create multiple domains for each department?
(Answer) We should only create one domain per department. The only time we will need to create more is if we expand to more than one building.
